Do you think any of the actors or actresses in ACL could get nominated?
I think D'Amboise is a possibility...maybe...
I really hope Jason Tam and/or Natalie Cortez gets nominated.

The guys may have a better chance...
With Mary Louise Wilson, Barbara Walsh, Erin Davie, Heather Laws, Karen Ziemba, Rebecca Luker, and Orfeh all in competition.
There's not really room for any of the CHORUS girls.

Yeah, now that I think about it, I think Tam is the best bet.
He got some really nice comments in reviews for the show. And come to think of it, what other Featured Actors are going to be in the running? There's John Gallagher Jr., maybe Christian Borle for Legally Blonde...
and no other names really jump out at me.

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:03pm^ John McMartin and Matt Cavenaugh of GREY GARDENS are likely nominees for Featured Actor.

John McMartin and Matt Cavenaugh for GG
Edward Hibbert and Jason Daniely for Curtains
John Cullum for 110

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:05pmI really liked the girl who played Diana. Her name escapes me now, but her Nothing was superb. I have a funny feeling she'll be overlooked. However, I doubt anyone will be nominated.

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:08pmI think Jason Tam has a good shot. His monologue really was great and Tony likes new talent admist the older respected members of the theatre community. Who knows!

I don't think any CURTAINS men will be nominated...
So, yes probably McMartin, Cullum, Tam, Gallagher, and either Borle or Cavenaugh.
I also don't think Cavenaugh will get a nod. I really don't think the comittee is going to go as crazy for GREY GARDENS as most people think. It will probably get nominated for score, book, musical, and lead/featured actress. And will win Actress and very possibily Featured Actress as well...

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:12pmJason Tam's monologue was great. But so was every other Paul's monologue in the various tours and regional productions that have been around since the original CHORUS LINE closed. There's nothing in particular that makes Tam's performance of the monologue stand on its own.

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:13pmOh, with Joanna Gleason and Brian Stokes Mitchell on the board of nominators, two actors who, in my opinion, have made very wise choices artistically in their respective careers and who I feel care deeply about theatre, we'll see quite a few nods for Grey Gardens and probably Spring Awakening too.

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:16pmTam gives a lovely performance in a fool-proof role. Just watch - he'll be the lone nominee. Probably over John McMartin or one of the men from CURTAINS.

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:18pmI really don't remember any of the other men talked about in this thread being mentioned with strong positivity in reviews besides Tam and Gallagher...

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:19pmI've seen people screw up that monologue and it really sucks when they do. Don't call if fool-proof. I doubt that he gets a nod though. With strong competion from the men from Grey Gardens and Curtains, a slot seems hard to get. And speaking of men from Grey Gardens, what about Bob Stillman as Gould as a nominee? I just thought of that. I haven't heard him mentioned once. He was quite good.

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:30pmGREY GARDENS is all about the women. I frankly don't think the universal love for them is going to translate to give both McMartin (in a tiny, forgettable role) and Cavenaugh nomintions.

I think I'd be 100% in agreement with you except for the fact that there are VERY few featured male performances that are really standouts this year. Which is why I think Martin will get nominated (just to fill a slot)...but I do think that in any other year, no GG men would have nominations.
It's VERY doubtful that Stillman and/or Cavenaugh will get nominated IMO.

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:36pmI don't recall Hibbert being notably singled out too much in the reviews for CURTAINS. I remember Brantley said something along of lines of this being "his usual shtick."

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:39pmSupporting Actor is a weak catagory, which is specifically why I expect Tam who got great reviews in a musical that could be buoyed to a Best Revival win by road producers should easily be nominated.

Posted: 4/9/07 at 6:40pmMy top choice from the girls would be Cortez, she was a very pleasent suprise. From the men, Tam. Otherwise, I think the only thing it will be elligible for is Revival, and I hope it doesn't get that.

Hibbert will not be getting a nomination. He didn't do anything fantastic. The only man who could and should get a featured nomination from Curtains is Jason Danieley. I hope the male category goes down like this (mind you 110 in the Shade is the only thing I haven't seen yet, so I will leave John Cullum out for now):
Matt Cavenaugh, Grey Gardens
Jason Danieley, Curtains
John Gallagher, Jr., Spring Awakening
Bob Stillman, Grey Gardens
Jason Tam, A Chorus Line
If John Cullum is absolutely spectacular, he would replace one of the Grey Gardens guys. As much as I hated Curtains, I really hope Jason Danieley wins it this year. He was one of the two standouts and he delivered "I Miss the Music" so beautifully.
