What do you like about Jason Robert Brown's music?

I'm looking around for some analysis of Jason Robert Brown's music and wanted some personal opinions about his music and what you like about it.

The lyrics haha. And how aggressive his songs can be. To play his music is an all around emotional experience.

As an accompanist, I LOVE playing his songs. They are fun to read. Also, his songs aren't just a melody and lyrics...they're more speaking on pitch and conversational.

Prior to "13" I would have said just about nothing.

But I thought there were some nice songs in "13."

I feel he's best when working within the constraints of a book. When he's not, and he's doing a song cycle or a work composed entirely of songs, I feel the songs tend to become longer and more self-indulgent. What should be three minutes becomes five or longer, and either drag out getting to the point or repeat it.

From a piano perspective, his music is difficult but ultimately rewarding. He just does some really cool things with his arrangements that--yes--can drive someone crazy sight reading.

I like the big-ness and the emotional scope of some of his songs, particularly those from Parade. Parade is a wonderful score.
