Les Mis is closing in early March, and some are saying that Sweeney will shut in Decemeber. What are the chances that Sweeney won't close and Les Mis will be extended?
Well, Sweeney will close at some point. All shows do. As of right now, no closing date has been announced so there's nothing to extend.

Les Mis is supposively selling group tickets until September 2007.
supposedly, Lucky
Les Miz is very strong and Sweeney Todd slim to none.

I agree about Sweeney not extending. The buzz is gone. I'll be surprised if they even make it to Thanksgiving.
I'm really hoping Les Mis will extend. It will be so popular; they should extend.
Sweeney as painful as it is to say wil close before the end of the year...but on the bright side the rumor is that Spring Awakening will got the theater.
I say give the cast of LeMiz some musical instruments... strap a razor to Javert and let him chase Valjean around, resurrect Fantine and have her and Javert make meat pies of the cast.
Please..
Let them both close in due time. They'll have had their nice long runs.
I would bet money that Les Mis will be around for AT LEAST a year, if not longer. As much as people don't want to admit it, we are all excited to see it again and again! HA!

I bet Les Mis will stay and I doubt, but hope sweeney will make it for much longer.

I am putting money down that Les Mis turns into an open run.
Which totally pains me.
Well considering Les Mis is scheduled to close a mere 2 weeks before I get to NY next, I HOPE IT KEEPS GOING!
Ten years more... :)
I would deeply love for both shows to still be running at the end of February. But I don't think Sweeney's going to last beyond Thanksgiving. I'm holding out hope that Les Mis will stick to its original six month plan, but I can't imagine being surprised if it does "magically" end up open-ended. XD
I'm on the "I think Les Mis will end up being an open-ended run" boat. This show closed when it was in its prime, and people are just thrilled to pieces to have it back, myself included. I was sad knowing I'd never get to see it on Broadway and now, TA-DA! It's back. Haha.

Sweeney is an open run, so why would it need to extend? Les Mis, on the other hand, is not, but will probably extend a bunch of times.
This is a far fetched wish but I hope Les Miserables fails miserably. I've had enough of its repetative pop ballads and pedistrian lyrics for a good 75% of the show.
"This show closed when it was in its prime, and people are just thrilled to pieces to have it back, myself included"
It was not in it's prime, imo.
By the end of the run it was getting a bit stale and lack luster, with the exception of a few lead performers. The numbers were also dipping pretty low on several occassions at least 6 mos to a year prior to the closing.
Again, I'm glad it's paying a visit, but personally see nothing, certaintly not the casting, keeping it here beyond 6 mos. Unless the numbers are so high towards the end of the run, Cam Mac may do better re-opening the tour. There will be too many other shows competing and others looking for theaters.
Again, just my view. AND what will be, will be.
With the numbers "Sweeney" is putting up, I don't expect it to run much longer. I'd say it's here through Thanskgiving, and it'll close with Lupone and Cerveris.
In regards to "Les Mis"... from what I understand, the intention was always for it to be open ended. In fact, according to a friend of mine who works for a major booking company, group tickets were on sale through November of 2007 right off the bat. They don't plan on going anywhere if the demand warrants them sticking around, which it looks to.
I've a feeling Sweeney will close instead of being recast (sans the role of Beadle when Alexander leaves September 10).
I'm crossing my fingers that some of the cast will join the National Tour which begins in San Francisco in 2007
