So, I am thinking of going to see some theatre while I am in Boston this weekend. My two options are between Topol in Fiddler at The Boston Opera House, or The Boston Lyric Opera's Carmen. Now, I have seen two shows at The Opera House last season but never have seen any thing at Boston Lyric Opera nor have I seen a very good production of Carmen. I would go with the cheaper option. However, that is a non issue since both of them offer student discount at basically the same price.
Oh thats an easy one to answer for me anayways. I saw "Fiddler" on Thursday night and it was the best production I have ever seen. I remember thinking Harvey was the ultimate Tevye, as he found comedy in the role I never knew exsisted. But Topol found even more than that and is a hoot! He has so much energy for 74 and plays it with emotion that gets to your soul.
3 words of caution though. The show is 3 hours long so unless you like a late dinner, eat first. Do not sit on the extreme sides of the Orchestra. I am not talking about the 2 sides off the center. Their is a separate section on either side of the Orchestra like in the Palace theatre. Those seats are partial view. I checked them out during intermission and saw for myself. I was in the second row Orchestra seat 11 (Row BB) and the seat was perfect!! Just avoid those on the sides. And lastly the show starts exactly on time. Their is no grace for late people. They will make you watch the first 10 minutes on a monitor. Get their early!!
Hope this helps! Enjoy your trip!
