Posted: 1/27/07 at 2:01pmI hear people did not like Ashley's acting. Who else who you have picked to portray Mary Poppins. I personally enjoyed her singing and acting.

Posted: 1/27/07 at 2:08pmHoneslty, I think Harvey Fierestien would be better in the role than Brown...but Susan Egan was a pick of mine.

Attendance issues aside, I think Laura Benanti would have been the perfect American actress for the role.

^She would've been lovely!
Rebecca Luker, actually. I could care less about her age, she'd be a blast. Ruthie Henshall as well.

Posted: 1/27/07 at 5:20pmWhat's the big deal? There was a lot of speculation as to others who could have played the role before Brown was cast. She's fun in the role, but we're all (some in jest, others not) speculating other potential actresses.

Posted: 1/27/07 at 5:31pmI am seeing it May 20th...I hope Brown is still in the role by then!

Posted: 1/27/07 at 5:33pmThe person that started the thread was talking about how people didn't like Ashley's performance... That can be hurtful and maybe it's fun to think of who's going to replace her but why are we starting this now??? She's not going anywhere anytime soon... Sorry, just my thoughts...

Posted: 1/27/07 at 5:35pmSo people shouldn't talk about things they didn't like?
#15re: Who else than Ashley Brown for Mary Poppins
Posted: 1/27/07 at 5:40pmNO, that's not what I'm saying... That's not what this thread was about to start off... It was who else than Ashley Brown... Not "What we liked/disliked about someone's performance... The title just sounds like you want her out??? You replace your name w/ who else than and tell me what you think?

Posted: 1/27/07 at 6:06pmNo, the original post says who would have been good to originate the role on Broadway instead of Ashley Brown, which is totally valid. And Egan and Schaffel sound just right to me.

Posted: 1/27/07 at 6:08pmThe original poster's just saying if Ashley wasn't casted, who do you think should've. We're not putting any hatred on Ashley, and Ashley's the only one I wanted to originate the role. They're just saying "well, who do you think could've been casted if Ashley wasn't involved or wasn't selected?"

It's "cast", love, not "casted", but you're right on track.

Posted: 1/27/07 at 6:40pmOk, maybe I read it wrong and that's fine... I was just saying I didn't think we should say: who would be better. etc... I think Susan Egan would be great... However, sure she won't be doing anything anytime soon due to her having a baby in the real near future... Sorry everyone thought I was being crude... Updated On: 1/27/07 at 06:40 PM

Posted: 1/27/07 at 6:47pmOne trip to the grocery store and look how much drama has unfolded. I was to clarify even if i did in my original post, I thought Ashley's role is also perfect for her. I was just curious about my question. I dont know anything about a singers voice but maybe if Ashley or her voice per say, aged just a lil bit faster she would have been right on the mark or be a favorite to more people. How old is she, like 23?

It was nothing against you or anyone... I just didn't want it to become one of those threads... It was misunderstood all around... Sorry to everyone... I love Ashley and the production of "Mary Poppins" and am taking 24 people w/ me this summer for a group tour I'm doing... All smiles...

I think her voice is lovely, I just found her performance flat.
As far as who could do the role better, I'm sure there are many unknowns as well, not just stars.
