Because they can?
That's a pretty good reason why...

Posted: 2/7/09 at 4:29pmThey're advertising so much because they have the money too and because they don't want their numbers to drop much more. If they have the money, they should advertise the crap out of it.

Once the numbers drop below 98% the producers start having seizures.
Wicked has been advertising a lot in the Tri-State area for quite awhile.

I guess they are advertising because they can. However, right before you enter/exit the A,C,E trains on 44th street I did a double take the other day when I saw a Phantom ad. That too is a show that I thought that I never thought would have to advertise. There was a Lion King one there as well a while back.
I guess, for shows that can advertise it is smart to do so. It can never hurt.
But, what interested me in terms of seeing all the Wicked ads in Grand Central is this. If you go into the LIRR section of Penn Station there are tons of Wicked ads there as well. When I looked at the photos on Broadway.com, it gave off the impression, at least to me, that Grand Central was the only place in the city that they were doing this in.

OT but there are still GYPSY ads in (I believe it's the 55th street) subway station.
And I agree that they must have a smart marketing team. Why wait til the show is flopping (which it certainly won't do soon but still) to market the hell out of it?
