Guess I'm missing the "news" here...
Is this something we didn't already know? Only thing they are hinting at that maybe wasn't clear before is a time frame.

Yep, it is deffinetly a possibility. The rumor has been around ever since the Chicago production came about. I remember reading an instance where Gene Wygandt, the Wizard in the Chicago production, told a fan that he hoped to reprise his role in the LA production. He said that he had heard the goal is to have it open by January 2007...

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

I actually heard this confirmed while it was playing in L.A. initially.

...and it came from a very reliable source.

"Stone says the "Wicked" producers are indeed eyeing the Pantages for another engagement but adds he cannot say whether it will be sit-down, stand-up or otherwise. He will add only that, because of high demand, the producers hope to bring the show back in 2007 or early 2008 for a run of "more than seven weeks" and that, because a big show requires a big theater, "it has to be at the Pantages."

Best12Bars ~ I don't doubt you have your sources and heard things, but the above (coming straight from Stone himself)doesn't sound like it's confirmed just yet. I do believe it will happen though! :) Updated On: 4/14/06 at 06:24 PM

Well, it looks like the earliest it could play at the Pantages is early 2007, after The Lion King is done on January 7. See here for Broadway LA's '06-'07 season:

Seems to be a pretty good possibility, since the remaining 3 shows of the season aren't at the Pantages.

I wonder if after the disappointing runs of THE PRODUCERS and THE LION KING they will announce another open ended run for L.A. I could see the show running maybe 4-6 months in Los Angeles but not 2-4 years like LES MIZ, PHANTOM or EVITA in the 80s, particularly if they wait until 2008 when the show wouldn't exactly be the latest hit from Broadway.

I would think perhaps the ideal situation would be to have second touring company that would start in L.A. I think LES MIZ at one time had 3 touring companies going at once.

To quote the article "It has to be at the pantages" I am sure there are other theatres that can hold it.

"I never had theatre producers run after me. Some people want to make more Broadway shows out of movies. But Elliot and I aren't going to do Batman: The Musical." - Julie Taymor 1999
