Not that we should be all that surprised, but...
I was checking around ticketmaster trying to get tickets to see Reiber again tomorrow, and noticed that the option for the $65 tickets was gone. Poking around some more, I realized they're missing from all Friday-Sunday performances. They remain at $55 for Tuesday-Thursday, but on weekends, they've gone up to $70. I have no idea how log ago this happened, but I just noticed now.

Posted: 7/5/08 at 10:44pmYeah, I saw that about a month ago when checking if there were seats left for Stephanie's last show. Kind of sucks for me since I can only go on the weekends and I always get the partial view and with fees and everything it will come to about $80. But I guess it's better than $120.

Posted: 7/5/08 at 11:03pmWell, the orchestra tickets are listed at $125 on the weekends now, which with fees brings the total cost to about $135 if you buy online.

Barnum was right . There is a sucker born every minute. Those who pay these exhorbitant prices especially for partial view seats qualify.
By the way, the show ain't worth it.

Posted: 7/5/08 at 11:09pmI was misled into getting a partial view ticket back in December for 80 bucks, and I wouldnt have paid $30 for that seat. Probably the worst seat I've ever gotten for a show.

14,472 people a week disagree with you Mr. Roxy. Wicked sells out every single seat at every single performance and has been doing so for years.
If you are the best employee in the office do you get a raise every year? Same with shows. The big hits can (and should) raise prices.

Posted: 7/5/08 at 11:15pmI actually have no problem with the seats themselves- if you've seen the show before, they're great seats. I just don't see myself regularly paying $70 for them. However, the $55 on weeknights is still one of Broadway's best bargains.

Posted: 7/5/08 at 11:55pmExactly how obstructed are the seats, any by what, just a weird angle?

You miss some pieces of scenery, depending on what side of the theater you're on. You might not see the farmhouse, the yellow brick road, or Elphie's entrance at the ball. There are a couple of other lines of dialogue you might miss. If you're close, you might not see the lines delivered on the staircase that will be directly above you (there are two of them that flank the stage on either side). You can also see the flying apparatus in Defying Gravity and the effect is not nearly as good from there.
Nevertheless, still great seats if you've seen the show before. It should be noted also that the seats further back (in rows G and H) are less obstructed.

Posted: 7/6/08 at 12:00amI just checked my old ticket stub. My seat was CC 10. Avoid this seat no matter what.

Posted: 7/6/08 at 12:05amI sat in EE9. For $55 it was great, because of Wicked's continuation to sell out. The show itself was lame, though.

I guess the producers are just not rich enough.
Each time they do this the salaries of every worker in the Theatre should also go up.
I know I am completely Crazy.

I agree with everything adamgreer said. I've sat in both G and H and yes, those are less obstructed.
I'd rather pay $70 and sit in the orchestra than pay $60 and sit in the rear mezz, no matter if it's all the way on the side. That's just my personal preference for that theater. It's also kinda funny that you're sitting right next to someone who paid full price, yet still has practically the same view as you.

Several shows have raised their prices in the last few weeks. Chicago's top prices on weekend have gone from $111.50 and $89 to $121.50 and $94, for example. And, oddly, Young Frankenstein and The 39 Steps have both had very small price increases. All YF's prices have gone up $.50 (the top price is now $122) and 39 Steps have gone up $1 to $99.50.
Gypsy is the only show I can think of in recent memory that has actually LOWERED prices. The rear mezzanine seats (formerly $97) are now $77, and the rear balcony sates (formerly $43) are now $32.

Posted: 7/6/08 at 6:19amI sit in partial view seats all the time. My fav is BB 5. Nothing like being front row even though you do miss some action. Today I'm in G 28 and I've never sat back that far in a partial view seat.

When you are paying $ 150 for a ticket get back to me & say how you should definitely raise prices. Everytime you do, you reduce your audience. If you think hits should raise there prices, that is your opinion. I think it is a bit crazy but there it is.
Cats ran for a gazillion years. It does not mean it was any good.

^Of course I'd rather pay less, but it's smart on their part to raise prices to make more money. Wicked is not the best show playing, but business-wise they're doing pretty well since they sell out every show, even now with the increased prices.
Defygravity777 - I sat in G28 for Annaleigh's last. I prefer the left side more, but that seat is still fine, you don't really miss anything. Enjoy the show!

The problem is that if people pay it, it only encourages them to keep raising it. In addition, when one show raises prices they eventually all do
All this will do is eat away at the audience. With a recession going on it can only hurt. I read in Reidels column ticket sales to All My Sons is not what they thought it would be.
We saw the last revival a few years ago but to pay what they are charging to see it again with new people is not for us. Ditto with Gypsy. Mrs R wanted to see Patti but after the latest round of ticket increases there, she said no. The same thing goes for Equus. Mrs R is a big Potter fan but feels (as I do) that the prices are ridiculous & she said not to get them.
We are being more selective what we see now. This is the new reality & it will only get worse in the future.I feel sorry for those who are being shut out of the experience because of ever increasing prices. It is their right to raise them but my right to balk at paying them.

I sympathize Mr. Roxy. I am a big Mercedes Benz fan but they are just TOO expensive. And people keep buying them so prices won't come down! Somebody should do something- Mercedes is RIPPING US OFF! And I hear the people who build them make only a FRACTION of what one of the cars sell for! OUTRAGE!
And Wicked tickets- WAY too expensive. Weird how every single one of theme gets sold at every single show. In fact, people paa scalpers HUNDREDS of dollars over face value for them.
Too bad you & Mrs. R have decided you don't love theater enough to pay for it. I am certain my man & I make less than you & yours. We sit in the back, buy tickets from half-price day of promotions and occasionally spring for the big bucks for a very special occasion. I think it's worth it. I guess you don't.

Posted: 7/6/08 at 5:22pmThey're actually $75. Did that change between when adamgreer posted and now?
#22re: Wicked raises price of partial view seats on weekends to $70
Posted: 7/6/08 at 5:25pmAre you sure? Ticketmaster still lists them at $70 on weekends, $55 weeknights.

That's strange. I just checked back and they have $75 and $70. Hmmm
When I checked earlier I only saw $75.

$75 is, I think, for the rear mezz.

Why post that in this thread? It adds nothing to the discussion and just wastes bandwidth. I'm sure there are many who say the same thing about Xanadu.
