The show, not an actual wild party.
I was on a cruise for the last 4 days, and one night sitting through one of the production shows that they do. It was a show of a very eclectic mix of music (Barbie Girl, Elvis, and I Feel Pretty sung by men in baseball uniforms, among other things). In the middle of this show, they begin the song "Wild, Wild Party" from Lippa's version of the show. Needless to say I was quite surprised. The two main singers performed that song, and then the dancers did "The Juggernaut". While the show wasn't exactly my cup of tea, I was so excited and shocked to hear them doing 2 songs from an off-Broadway show from 2000. Just thought I would share. It was pretty much the last thing I was expecting in that show. They also changed a couple of the words- instead of "Adam help me now" she said "Warden help me now" (they were dressed in jail uniforms) and instead of "and all because of that tree" they said "and all because of that key" (referring to the key that locks the jail cell). I was very amused.

I was on Holland America cruise Line for the last 10 days (the old person cruise line) and the shows weren't very good.
The other 13 cruises I've been on (none Holland America)- all shows were better.
Last year, they had a "Broadway in review" show. It was mostly older Broadway shows but it was performed well.
Sorry, a bit of a threadjack

I wish they could do actual shows and not reviews. They can handle small shows:
Last Five Years
You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown
The Spitfire Grill
etc

The ship I worked on we did ALW Music Of The Night. Only, it's like Vegas, they cut it down to only 45 minutes because the guests are not spending any money when they are sitting and watching a show.

doodle- I was on the Voldendam. Honestly, don't aviod any shows. They weren't bad at all. It's just from the other cruises and shows I've seen, they were amateur. It's probably that I am just used to more "prfessional" singing/dancing/acting.
I'd especially go to the guest entertainers. Let me know what ship your going on and I'll tell you if this one entertainer I really enjoyed will be on it.
It's not at all that the cruise was bad. It wasn't as "active" as other cruise lines. I'd have to say the average age was about 65 so that's probably why everything was scaled down.

I am looking forward to the less active crowd, actually. I hate the in your face..."let's mambo" crap (no Kathy Lee in your face.)
We will be on the Noordam.
Thanks

doodle, you will probably enjoy it more than since you like it calmer. During New Years, there was no dancing/party on deck. They had random parties in different places on the ship but really, it just didn't seem like "New Years" but rather just a regular kind of party.
A good thing, the bar staff people (the ones that come aound in the lounges and pool asking if you want a drink) aren't as nagging as other cruise lines I've been on.
Unfortunately, the guest entertainer I had will not be on your ship but I'm sure you will have other good ones.
Just a fair warning. If you've been on other cruise lines, this one is not as clean (at least the ship I was on). There was purell hand sanitizers all over the ship- however, many were empty. Sometimes I had to go through 3 or 4 plates to find a clean one. Same with silverware.
Don't get me wrong, I had a great time but it just wasn't what I would have expected from a cruise.

Yikes! Friends who cruise alot told me this line was pristine...which is one reason I agreed (they are going again.) This is only the ship's 4th voyage, I believe, so hopefully it is still in "shipshape" and clean.
I know I'll have a great time...if the bar staff is good, then I'm okay

The bar staff really impressed me. If you wanted a drink, they were there but they didn't bother you too much.
We also heard that this cruise line was pristine but, it just wasn't up to the stadards I'm used to. I really think a lot of it had to do with the age of people (in regards to the amount of activity.)
There were no pool games...
Hopefully the ship will be cleaner (with full purell containers) since the ship is fairly new and on it's only 4th voyage.
I'm probably making it sound worse than it is. I just felt like you should have a fair warning.
Do enjoy and please report back!
