Will an Italian ever play Guido?

As a big fan of NINE, I was just wondering:
The first Broadway outing had Raul Julia from Puerto Rico and then Bert Convey. London had their own Brit, Jonathan Pryce. Now we Antonio Banderas from Spain. Isn't time to find an Italian actor to "Be Italian."

The incredibly handsome Sergio Franchi played Guido during the latter part of the show's original run. I really enjoyed his performance.

Apparently it's not so "seemple" finding an Italian actor to play the role. Or was that an actress who can sing "Simple" in an authentic Italian accent...? It was one or the other...
