Posted: 1/24/07 at 10:20amHow on earth are they going to mount this on the postage stamp sized stage of the Helen Hayes?
#2re: Xanadu Set if Krakowski Signs On
Posted: 1/24/07 at 10:22amKrakowski should run in the other direction screaming.
#3re: Xanadu Set if Krakowski Signs On
Posted: 1/24/07 at 10:23amOh yeah the Greek thing - great idea! Right, Terry Hands?
#4re: Xanadu Set if Krakowski Signs On
Posted: 1/24/07 at 10:55amI thought this was set for bway regardless. Didnt they make an announcement months ago? And speaking of "du" what ever happened to the broadway run of "zanna dont?"

Posted: 1/24/07 at 11:05amI still don't believe this is going to be a Broadway show.

Posted: 1/24/07 at 11:32amThis article seems very gossipy. The Hayes holding a big new musical? Um, questionable. Krakowski really should get away from this project.

Theatreboy-
They officially released performance rights to the show, so I have a funny feeling that "Zanna Don't" is not transferring.
Honestly, Terry Hands jokes aside, the Greek thing might work for it...if not, I smell Carrie 2!

Posted: 1/24/07 at 11:40amThe thing is, Krakowski is beaming with talent, she has a Tony Award, she could basically choose any vehicle she wants for her next Broadway venture -- with her name above the title -- and this is what she's going to waste it on?

ZANNA DON'T will never have a Broadway run. It's been nearly 5 years since the show played off-Broadway. If it was going to happen, it would've happened already.
I think XANADU has the potential to be campy fun, and I'll see anything that Ms. Krakowsi is attached to.

I'm aquiver with anticipation. Can Krakowski work this around her 30 Rock schedule? Regardless, I don't want to miss this.
YAY Xanadu!
#12re: Xanadu Set if Krakowski Signs On
Posted: 1/24/07 at 4:37pmNow I think Jane would be a perfect, Janet van de Graf in Chaperone.
#13re: Xanadu Set if Krakowski Signs On
Posted: 1/24/07 at 4:54pm30 ROCK shoots in New York. If the show opens in April/May, the show will already be on summer hiatus.

Krakowski's 30 Rock schedule will probably have minimal effect on her decision. I think if she decides not to sign on, the show will just not happen or it'll go to an off-Broadway house as it was originally intended before the successful readings with Krakowski and Jackson.
Jane Krakowski is such a talented actress and has such stage presence that I doubt she'll choose a mediocre project as her Broadway return after her Tony-winning turn in Nine; that's why I believe this project is highly underrated and will probably impress everyone once it opens.
Quite brilliant how the competition for best actress in a musical just keeps getting better and better, getting a nomination will be the award this season.

Posted: 1/24/07 at 5:29pmI attended one of the two presentations over the weekend. Cute Campy fun is how I'd describe it. However, I found the book to be trite and thin. The music wasn't as good as I hoped or remembered it to be. I found the humor to be self deprecating or not terrible smart. Andrew Lloyd Webber moments and Clash of the Titans, isn't really funny. Somewhat reminiscent of The Wedding Singer, although TWS was better. Oh my! I never thought I'd ever say that. The references to Laurence Olivier, Maggie Smith and Ursul Andress at the end of the show were lame. In my opinion not my cup of tea. It should do a run Off Broadway where it has a better chance of finding a cult audience. Why not stay at the Minetta Lane?

Krakow has been attached from the beginning.
#17re: Xanadu Set if Krakowski Signs On
Posted: 1/24/07 at 6:31pmActually Kerry Butler starred in an earlier reading of the show.
#18re: Xanadu Set if Krakowski Signs On
Posted: 1/24/07 at 7:01pmI saw the reading a few months ago with Krakowski, Ben Vereen, Annie Golden, Leslie Kritzer, etc. The Greek thing worked pretty well, as did most of the presentation, especially Ben Vereen. The music was the standout. It was an audience pleaser that night, but I don't see it on broadway AT ALL.

"but I don't see it on broadway AT ALL"
really? good, put it on. im so sick of being bored with the current state of musical theatre.

Posted: 1/26/07 at 5:09amXanadu is campy fun, but I think with the right people and music, it might be enjoyable. I did enjoy the movie, but I was only twelve; I was a huge ONJ and Gene Kelly fan, which might have altered my judgement. I say give it a shot- as per the title song: "A place, where nobody dared to go..."

MY question is this:
With the onset of "Little Mermaid" and it's possiblity of being on rollerskates....can Broadway withstand two rollerskating musicals at once?
#22re: Xanadu Set if Krakowski Signs On
Posted: 1/26/07 at 3:30pmi just saw her on 30 rock last night and she is hilarious

"The "Xanadu" workshop cast Tony Roberts as Zeus and Cheyenne Jackson ("All Shook Up") as the struggling artist. Both are likely reprise their roles on Broadway."
YAY. Cheyenne back on Broadway.
I think XANADU will be campy, fun and cheesy and possibly hysterical. Who can say? Unless you have psychic powers and saw it in you're head already or you went forward in time and saw it and can judge it, than lay off. I mean seriously, first, LEGALLY BLONDE is attacked after ONE PREVIEW. For godsake, give a show a view before you pass any judgement.

Posted: 1/26/07 at 3:59pmWell, to be fair, those who attacked LEgally Blonde after the first preview did see it...
