I apologize profusely if this has been done before, but I searched and couldn't find another board. Feel free to reprimand me. =)

I'm interested to know what you all have in your collection of broadway cast recordings. Mine is fairly limited, and I want to know what I should get next so maybe some of you can inspire me...

Oops, sorry, I spaced out there.

Into the Woods, Little Shop of Horror, RENT, Phantom of the Opera, SWIWS, Avenue Q, Dreamgirls, The Color Purple, A Chorus Line, Evita, Sweeney Todd (Original), Chicago, The Wiz, Wicked, Caroline or Change, Sweet Charity, Jesus Christ Superstar, Spelling Bee, Les Mis

That's all I can remember right now, but you get the idea. I like a lot of different musicals.

Frontrowcentre2 started a thread several months ago with a list he has provided to libraries with the top ~100 cast albums to get, decade by decade. I'll try to find it for you.

Definitely check that thread out, it was great.

Check out HELLO DOLLY, FUNNY GIRL, OLIVER, THE PAJAMA GAME, etc - all the classics that everyone should have.

Also check out some Sondheim.

I recommend reading through this thread for an idea of the what to get to achieve a fairly comprehensive collection. Now if you're just looking at what your next 2-3 shows should be, that's another whole discussion we'd be happy to have.

Yeah, I definetely want more Sondheim, I don't have much there, and I really love his work. And I'm seeing a production of Ragtime tomorrow in Boston, so I'm sure I'll want it right away!

Wow, that thread is great! Thanks so much! Updated On: 5/5/06 at 03:56 PM

I'm pretty certain you will wind up loving the music of Ragtime.

I recommend you listen to BWW radio a lot. Also accuradio.com has a really good broadway channel, which allows you to sort through it's different subchannels to listen to only shows currently on Broadway, or only shows in certain decades, or only certain composers - you get the idea, there are a lot of subchannels.
Then when you hear several shows from one show, you'll have a better idea if you should buy the whole album. That's how I bought Amour and A Man of No Importance for example, which both have terrific scores but I would never have heard of them otherwise.
