This is totally random but I was in Brundibar in 2006 at the Yale Rep before it went to New Victory. After it ended in New York the producers came back and said of all the three states Yale was most successful. The rehearsal process was the longest I have ever done. Anyway my motto as an actor is to never read reviews and we were also not aloud to except after the show ended they gave us a packet filled with each official review. Though the show received mixed reviews, I never got to hear how it was received by the public. So if you saw it in California, Yale, or in New York how did you feel about the show?

I saw a noon performance of the Brundibar/double bill in NYC at the New Victory Theater. I am a retired teacher who had much to do with the drama/music programs at schools I taught at in Toronto Canada. I was happy to squeeze in a noon performance before a 2:00 matinee elsewhere. I liked the Brundibar half of the double bill very much. The set design was wonderful, and I was surprised that so much of the music was quite tuneful. Of course the "true-life" aspect of the story, the fact that the creators of the show all died in the camps, added poignancy. The message presented in Brundibar came through loud and clear to me, and I am surprised the prison authorities allowed the show to go unchallenged. The performers were excellent. I'm glad I saw the show! I could see the relevance of the opening half of the show, but I enjoyed the opera half more.

I saw the show in California and enjoyed the performance. I agree that the set design was wonderful, etc. Before seeing the show, I had read a little bit of the show's background, and found the upper exhibit (not sure if this was at the other 2 places) just added more depth. I don't remember understanding the full message of this story, but I do remember thinking that it didn't have as much of an impact on me as the other story of the double bill did.
