I was just cast in A CHorus Line today as Mark. What songs does this character sing and what does he do? I'm not too familiar with the show except I've heard a couple songs. Alsom if anyone knows where I could get a script online, that would be great. Thanks!
If you were just cast, chances are you'll be getting a script and sheet music rather soon...no?

I have to wait about 4 weeks. Rehearsals start June 27 and I just want to get a head start.

Mark has some solo singing moments during "Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen" and is, of course part of all of the ensemble numbers. He has a mini-monologue towards the top of the show (as does every other character) where he introduces himself to the director (Zach), a little speech at the end, and a few scattered lines throughout the rest of the show.
It's a good part. "A Chorus Line" is a true ensemble piece, though and Mark doesn't stand out from the ensemble as much as and get his own solo turn like some of the others (Cassie, Mike, Al, Kristine, Sheila, Paul, Bebe, and Maggie).
MARK: well, i get the feeling most of you always knew what you wanted to do. me - i didn't. i was just a kid for a while. oh, then one day - well- my father had this fabulous library in the back of the house - and when i was - about eleven, i guess - i found this medical textbook. it had pictures of the male and female anatomy. well, i thought that was pretty interesting. i used to read that book a lot.

MARK: and from the book i diagnosed my own appendicitis.
singing:
next day i went to our doctor down the block.
sure enough - acute appendicitis!
they rushed me right to the hospital.
well, i figured this book
would cover ev'rything
the rest of my life.
and when i was thirteen, i had my first ... wet dream. i went right back to the book ... milky discharge ... milky discharge, milky discharge ... GONORRHEA! i was in shock, i mean ... GONORRHEA! before i'd even started. i was terrified. i couldn't tell my mother i had ... GONORRHEA! so, the book said, drink a lot of water ...
ZACH: is that all the book said?
MARK: no, it said take penicillin, stepto-something-or-other, but i couldn't do anything about that unless i told somebody.
MARK sings:
so all i could do was drink the water,
and i drank like twenty glasses a day.
speaking:
for three weeks. i almost drowned. finally i went to confession and told the priest that i had GONORRHEA! well, he was in shock, too.
sings:
"who have you been with, my son?"
nobody. nobody.
"then how can you have ... gonnorrhea?"
speaking:
i told him about the book's diagnosis for milky discharge and he set me straight. it's the only time the church ever helped me out ...
MARK sings:
locked in the bathroom with PEYTON PLACE ...
(which is funny, cause i can remember sneaking that out of my parents' night table to read.)
and here's your opening when you introduce yourself to zach ...
MARK: ah, mark anthony. really mark philip lawrence tabori. tempe, arizona. i'm twenty.
BOBBY: oh, jesus.
MARK: and if i get this show, i'll work real hard.
and at the end, you're the one who goes to get water for the injured paul.

no problem. now get MEZMORIZING!
Semi Off-Topic- Cturtle: What exactly is Peyton Place? I've loved the show for years and never really thought about it haha
not great literature, but a book that was incredibly popular and apparently quite risque for it's time. from it came the movie and the soap opera.

Would Richie be considerd a bigger stand-out part? I did not see him in your list Margo.
Margo, you also left out Val and Morales...who both have their own song.

Sorry, you're right. I was typing quickly and off the top of my head.
Mark is one of the characters that gets to pantomime during Hello Twelve Hello Thirteen. The last time I did the show (a few months ago), our Mark was hysterical. He had great moments. Always got a laugh during it.
agreed. mark may be one of the "smaller" parts, but it's one that a good actor can really make something of
