I will be New York and already seeing Color Purple and Sweeney this June. What else should I add to my shows? History or Drowsy?

History Boys.
Drowsy should be around for a while, and will then be done by every regional and community theatre in the country. History Boys is a limited run, and the chance to see the original National Theatre cast on stage should not be passed up.

I'd recommend seeing both, but if you can only see one, see History Boys. It's one of the most sublime theatrical events to come along in many years and the opportunity to see the original definitive British cast should not be missed (it's a limited engagement running only through September 3rd). Drowsy Chaperone is fun silly escapism which is enjoyable, but it'll probably be around for a couple of years, so if you miss it this next trip, you can always see it later.

I agree with Smaxie (eta: and Margo). The opportunity to see such a great play with the original cast still intact would certainly garner my vote for History Boys. While I still haven't seen Drowsy, I can't imagine it being that spectacular to sway me to see that in favor of the Boys.

I would see History Boys. One of the most entertaining plays I have seen in years.
I loved "Posner"
Personally, I would see Jersey Boys over Drowsy.
(I loved Jersey Boys this season. I liked Drowsy, but was expecting so much from all I heard.)
PS I am still upset that LA CAGE closed. It was perfect in that theater and more entertaining than almost everything.

Posted: 4/29/06 at 12:20pmI never saw History but it's a limited engagement so I would try to see that. Drowsy could be around for a while.

Posted: 4/29/06 at 12:21pmdd - I think the plan has always been to move CHAPERONE to a smaller theatre; they really just wanted to get the show up and running this season and of course the producer has ties to the Marriott Marquis.

Yeah, it's silly to have Drowsy in that ugly ultramodern theatre. It ideally should be in one of the many modest historic 1000 seat houses on 44th and 45th (the Barrymore would be a good pick).

go see THE HISTORY BOYS.
for the following reasons...
it truly is an amazing play. It won't be around for ever. It is destined to become one of the legendary productions. Your already seeing 2 musicals, why not see a play.
aaaaand if you don't go see it. you'll have to answer to ME

Both are spectacular -- just ask yourself if you want a play or a musical, a comedy or a dramedy?
If you want a musical or a comedy, go with "Drowsy."
If you want a play or a dramedy, go with "History."
I enjoyed both immensely. I think I'd actually give the edge just slightly to "History Boys," but then again, there is going to be a movie with the same cast.

Since it's a limited engagement, I'd recommend History Boys.

Posted: 5/1/06 at 3:59pmMy family got tickets to Drowsy (How is the 14th row center?) and I think I am going to see History with some friends. So I'll get to see both! Any ideas where to sit for History? Are the cheapest seats alright?
