taken from the news story about the car being at the box office opening "100 lucky ticket-buyers will also receive a CCBB T-shirt and a CD of the cast recording"- which says to me that they are using the london recording...so no raul version
If Chitty will be a hit (75% it will) they will make a new recording.

well it says at the box office opening, usually cast recordings do not come out till over a month after it opens. maybe they have not made final plans to make one. keep positive
i'll attempt it, however i know that wasn't the case with 2 other notable london imports (mamma mia and the most recent oklahoma)
Well Mamma Mia didn't really need one since it would just be different people singing the same ABBA tunes (I realize that is what the OLC is but you really didn't need to hear MORE different people).
Oklahoma was probably because there was no MAJOR (No Patrick Wilson isn't and wasn't a star), while there was one for the OLC and because there are a dozen Oklahoma recordings out there already.
Most newer London transfers don't record again...I'm not surprised...
I wouldn't expect THE WOMAN IN WHITE and MARY POPPINS to record either.

I like the London Cast recording very much. Lots of fun

*sigh* I've been wondering this too. Hmm, this red head will be quite angry if an OBC recording doesn't happen.

It could be the optimist in me, but there could be the remote chance that since its an established hit coming into NY, (that looks to have little tampering or revision and will probably sell), they may record an OBCR prior to the opening...?
just a thought...

It's possible they record it before it hits Broadway, for release before/around opening...

I know that CCBB cast members have a cast recording rider in their contracts. Draw your own conclusions from that. . .

Correct me if I'm wrong, but usually when shows transfer from London, and don't make a new cast recording is because most of the cast is the same. Most of the Oklahoma cast was the same on Broadway as it was in London(with Patrick Wilson replacing Hugh Jackman). Same thing happened with Phantom. CCBB is a new cast than that which was in the London production, so hopefully they will make a cast recording so this cast can be immortalized on CD.
Grrrrrrrrrrrr. That's how angry I'll be if there isn't one, even though I've been thinking for a while that there wouldn't be.

what London cast recording? I can't even find one...

You can find it on Footlight (https://footlight.com/product.cfm?product_id=2563 width="14" height="14" src=https://cloudimages.broadwayworld.com/board/icon_smile_cool.gif> and Amazon.co.uk (https://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006I628/qid=1108092984/ref=pd_ka_2/202-5153271-8218210) :)

Will they sell the London cast recording album ( Michael Ball, Emma Williams, Brian Blessed, Nicola McCauliffe, Richard O'Brien, etc) at the Hilton theatre before the Broadway OCR is ready ( assuming they will come out with one)? Or do they just wait until the OBCR has been recorded and ready for release?
The London Cast recording is very enjoyable to listen to!

The website lists fewer songs than the London recording. Also, there is a different musical director for Broadway than in London. Since the London recording is only available as an import (amazon.com/uk) and at select retailers over here (Footlight Records, etc), it would make sense that they would record the US cast for the US market.
The entire cast isn't even together yet, so if they are going to record, it'll likely be later on.........

Guess it works both ways... THE LION KING, RENT, THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE, THE WHO'S TOMMY for example were not recorded when they transferred to London's West End.
"Most of the Oklahoma cast was the same on Broadway as it was in London(with Patrick Wilson replacing Hugh Jackman)."
Actually, only two members of the London cast transferred to Broadway -- Josefina Gabrielle (Laurey) and Shuler Hensley (Jud Fry).
As for Phantom, again it was only the three leads -- Michael Crawford, Sarah Brightman and Steve Barton. I believe Judy Kaye took the role of Carlotta, which was played by Rosemary Ashe in London.

They should make it a law: anything Raul sings must be recorded.
I don't think CHITTY really should be recorded...Michael Ball is a better singer than Raul (even thought I love watching Raul,) and the show is just 100% terrible anyway...I think the London recording will suffice.
actually, Sant, there is a very strange London cats recording of THE LION KING... I'm not sure if it's the original London cast or some kind of London studio cast but, yeah, there is a London LION KING CD... there's also one in German, Japaneese and Dutch... Updated On: 2/19/05 at 04:28 PM
I'm backing timote's proposition. I will not be a happy camper if this isn't recorded.
