My friend and I started a theatre company at school (a sort of unofficial student group). Our first production was Oscar Wilde's An Ideal Husband and it went really really well (especially with the disorganized planning). We're trying to think of a play to do BEFORE the school year starts this time so we can plan better, but we're having issues choosing one.

Sophomore year is HELL at my school, so we need a smaller cast. We can't to another Wilde (lest we be "those people who do Oscar Wilde") or any Shakespeare (people who do Wilde tend to stick with Wilde and Shakespeare for some reason, and we don't want to fall into that). But we also need something rather well known to the non-theatre world, at least recognizable, and preferably in a modern setting (so we don't have to make the costume trek).

Any ideas?

a philadelphia story.

"I mean, sitting side by side with another man watching Patti LuPone play Rose in GYPSY on Broadway is essentially the equivalent of having hardcore sex." -Wanna Be A Foster. "Say 'Goody.' Say 'Bubbi.'" ... "That's it. Exactly as if it were 'Goody.' Now I know you're gonna sing 'Goody' this time, but nevertheless..."

Do you know who has the rights to that? If anyone?
