Anybody know anything about Yankee Doodle Dandy? Is it anything like the movie? I've seen the movie but haven't seen it live. What are some of the roles, especially for someone who looks young. Thanks for the help!

The stage adaptation of Cohan's life is the musical "George M!", which ran for a year on Broadway in the later 60s with Joel Grey as the title character, Jill O'Hara as Agnes Nolan and a very young Bernadette Peters as Josie Cohan. I'm not exactly sure how the libretto and film script corollate, but they are somewhat similar. The musical takes advantage of Cohan's vast catalog and includes more songs. The original cast recording is available from Sony Broadway (retailed @ $11.98; you can most likely find it for even less). It's not particularly a great show, but audiences seem to like it a lot. (Nothing tops that great Cagney film, in my opinion). You should try for Josie (depending how young you mean...) or possibly Agnes. Good luck.
