I tried to get lottery seats for Wicked tonight, and unfortunately, was unsuccessful. So the person I rushed with and I were trying to think of another show we could see instead. And we have seen every musical that is playing on Broadway, even our favorites at least 5 times! There is nothing left to see! How come there are no new musicals this season? Does anyone have any suggestions as to "no luck with rushing" activities for the evening (besides movies, dinner, bowling, and laser tag)?
I keep having the same problem. I keep just buying cheep tix to shows ive already seen. i need to figure something else out. (this happens to me, probably 4 nights a week. agh)
What about Off-Broadway or Off-Off Broadway? Lots of shows have gotten their start off-Broadway and you could be ahead of the game.
I would kill to have that problem....you should try off broadway now, or maybe off-off broadway.
EDIT: musicgal04, you beat me to it!
Wow. I wish I had that problem. I need to move to NYC.
seen lots of the off bway and random things. Forbidden Bway, of corse.... Awesome 80' prom..... la la la. What else is there? lol
Does anyone else lose wicked and dash over to Avenue Q? lol. love the convienience there!

Let me introduce you to an incredible new concept: plays. Try them sometime.
Tried plays, not interested. I've seen 8 of them in the past year and nothing has been entertaining enough. And off-Broadway and beyond is great, I have seen a bunch of shows there as well. Just looking for suggestions once the plan of going to a show (regardless of broadway, off, off-off, or play) is done.

I don't mean to be harsh, but do you realize what you are saying? Many people would kill to be able to see one or two broadway shows, and you are complaining that there is nothing else to see? It's NEW YORK CITY!!! If you don't want to see a show, find a coffee shop somewhere and just enjoy where you ARE! I am so not trying to be mean here, I just think you should take advantage of what the great city of New York has to offer. And, if you are looking to go somewhere for some sort of show, there are a billion comedy clubs and improv groups in the city.
Plays? Never heard of em'... I can introduce you to my good friend sarcasim though.... probably just as entertaining, no?
I think many people who live in NY don't take advantage of the city and all it has to offer. Don't get me wrong- I feel very privilged to live here and be able to see all the shows (most of them multiple times). I'm just looking for ideas of something to do in case I don't get tickets to a show I am trying to rush, or, for those of you who can't come see shows every day, what else in NYC is worth checking out! Give me a tourist perspective of fun things to do, or a local one of stuff I don't know about!
Well I've seen all the musicals currently on Broadway at least once (this has been the case for awhile now since I generally see something at the start of its run). So, many times I'll go back 6, 7, or in some cases 17 or 18 times.
However, I do agree with what everyone else says here. First once I finished seeing the musicals I moved on to non-musicals (and no, I haven't seen all of those yet, I'm working on it.) But I also enjoy a good Off Broadway show. I'd say to see those too. I mean they're certainly worth it.
I would also say that seeing shows is never "done." Once a show changes casts it can feel like a COMPLETELY different show than the first time you saw it so you really can never run out of something to see.
I would also say you should think of going to something like the Neo-Futurists' Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind Granted it runs really late at night but there are a million things like that throughout the city you can go to, this just happens to be my personal favorite.

As Jai said, I wish I had that problem! *And* I'm a New Yorker! How do you have the TIME to see so many shows? X.x
And there are SO many things to do in the city (you can probably guess what borough I'm from now...lol)! Like 'Mum said, go to a comedy club! Or just take a walk; Manhattan at night can be beautiful!
There are plenty of other things...but I'm rather brain-dead right now, lol.
I live about 3 minutes by subway from Times Square, so it's easy to go down and rush something, like put my name in a lottery drawing 2 minutes from the end.
I do go to comedy clubs, but there are times when I rush a show with a kid (i work in education) and can't do that.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone! Neofuturists sounds really interesting, and as for walking around at night... it's cold out now!!

Buy a hat! LOL. I LOVE cold weather, and tend to forget that a lot of people...well, get cold. :0)
A hat and a scarf are lovely things to prevent the coldness.
I think if you want to go you sort of make time. I can see three or four shows a week for months and then miss a week or something. It happens as you make it happen. There was a week recently where I saw 6 shows. It's not that hard.
Awh, dont think either of us are complaining! Really, it's WONDERFUL. ..About people wanting to have this problem... here is your invitation. Although you cant stay with me, I will meet ANYONE, ANYTIME for a show. My old school ID has no date, and im always willing to "buy" for someone who wants good, cheep tickets.
Still though, if anyone knows of anything fun to do at "theatre time" that we arent aware of, fill us in. Right Liotte?
This is a very interesting post....I never really pay attention to what I do @ night in NY when I'm there because I'm just hanging out w/friends I never get to see and being crazy and having a good time, like literally anything can be fun in the City when you're with people.
I suggest:
getting to know some different people, strike up a conversation w/ random people & see where it gets you, or hitting up some of the parties that are constantly going on, or go to an art gallery, or an auction, go to a poetry slam, go see a concert, go see a fashion show, go have a wild night of fun with all your friends and then crash @ someone's apartment(or house) for a change of pace, go to a sporting event, go to an intimate flamenco show, go to a club, go bar hopping-whew, the list goes on and on but I hope there are some helpful suggestions in there for you guys
I've always wanted to see a poetry slam.
Imagine what it's like for those of us who don't like Wicked. That's one less show to go to. If you demand something new, eventually you wind up exploring other options like Off-Broadway, Off-Off Broadway, Concerts/Cabarets, a college or community theatre show, and thanks to Davis Gaines, now the Ice-capades is included. It's all cheaper than Broadway, so you at least save money. The other option is to see shows you've already seen, but justify it with an interest in recent casting developments. I go with that one when I can afford it.

Take the train to Paper Mill and see SHE LOVES ME. I haven't seen it yet, but I hear all good things and it got some nice reviews. I loved the 94 Broadway revival. If you've never seen the show, try it and then let us know what you thought.

last time i was in NYC my friend took me to a poetry slam but it was in a different area, not times square. the place was called the newyorican or nuyorican or something- not sure how its spelled. it was at 10pm so we had time to get there.
Thanks for the suggestions FOCI!
Newsieboy, we should coordinate when we are rushing Wicked, so then we can check out some of these places if we don't get tickets.

Well, you could sit around at home and whine about the fact that you've seen every musical and now there's nothing to do!
Geez, grow up for heaven sakes!!!
Or better yet, here are some activities for you...
* Volunteer at a kitchen that serves meals to the homeless;
* Deliver for Meals on Wheels;
* Donate blood;
* Become a Big Brother or Big Sister;
* Read to the blind;
* Teach an basic computer course to inter-city kids;
* Thank God that you have such problems.
