Posted: 4/5/11 at 8:50amI live in a backwater where there is virtually no chance of catching the original unsanitized Grease live. Does anyone know of an available film version?

Posted: 4/5/11 at 8:55pmThat ain't the Grease I'm looking for. I want to see it the way it first appeared on Broadway in 1972...

Posted: 4/6/11 at 8:55amThat does seem to be about where it's at. I saw Grease three times during it's initial run back in the '70s, but it seems that ever since that horrible movie came out in '78 every theatrical version has been ruined in one way or another. I saw the Broadway revival of the piece back in the '90s... and frankly it was very nearly as bad as the movie. New Line Theater did a re-enactment of the original a few years ago, but I didn't get to go see it. I've been hoping to find it captured on film somewhere, but after two weeks of digging I'm starting to think it simply doesn't exist.

American Theatre Company in Chicago begins performances of the original pre-Broadway production of Grease (original book and score before changes were made for Broadway). Performances begin April 21st.
