Atleast according to Harvey Fierstein.Maybe this is really old news but I thought it was interesting that disney said don't waste your time on this show. Here is the link:

Nope. They were just planning to make bucks off of licensing. (and yes, it's old news.)
Which is all they care about anyway.

Posted: 7/3/12 at 12:01amI thought it was interesting that at first they didn't even want Alan Menken to be involved really, but he basically said, "No, it's my project, I'm going to do it"... and I think that was the first game-changer for their plans.

Posted: 7/3/12 at 12:08amI kind of wish this never came to Broadway. I sort of hate this show.

It will run a while and make some $ on BWay but it will never be a BEAUTY, LION KING, or even POPPINS.
In schools it will clean up and little girls will be cross-dressing for years.
It's being reported that JJ was out tonight and no refunds.

^He posted on twitter that he would be out. Savvy audience members know to always check twitter before heading to the theatre.

Barney's nephew is gettin' some raves on the Web, Harve says he was makin' the ladies swoon.
Not everyone knows the rules about refunds and a few were upset.

"Not everyone knows the rules about refunds and a few were upset."
Is Jordan billed above the title to actually enable refunds if he's out?

Jordan is NOT above the title, but it didn't stop people from asking for a refund.
NO ONE is ever above the title in a DISNEY show.

That's what I figured but from the way you stated no refunds I got the impression that you felt people should have been entitled to one.
Sorry if I misread the tone of your original post

So, how was the understudy? Anyone there last night? I saw the show the previous Monday (I loved it) and Kara Lindsay was out.

Not entirely true. Toni Braxton, Michelle T. Williams, and Deborah Cox were all billed above the title in Aida, and got the "so and so IS Aida" billing.

Posted: 7/3/12 at 11:23am^^^^^ yes. This. Although.. the film version of this show is one of those moments of my childhood where I discovered that musicals were tops. Newsies and Annie.
#19so disney never wanted newsies on broadway?
Posted: 7/3/12 at 11:39amAgreed. I mean, I grew up on Disney musicals- especially Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin- and I was one of those kids who watched Newsies when it was on Disney Channel at random times. But still, Disney's pretty well worn out their stock of strong properties (Beauty, Lion King, Mary Poppins, etc.) and started to dip into the weak ones (as much as I love stage Newsies, the movie really is just a lovable disaster). So it's time to take a break and just maintain the quality of their current shows, in my opinion.

Aida was not a Disney "Brand" show. It was not billed as "Disney's Aida". As a quick visit to IBDB or Playbill Vault will show, Disney was not credited as the show's producer. They produced it under the name "Hyperion Theatricals" instead.

Hyperion has always been a Disney code name, Aida was a Disney project for years, I wonder what the difference between the divisions were? Or was it just the title as they were both under Tom Schumacher.

Posted: 7/3/12 at 1:29pmYes, Hyperion is under the umbrella of Disney. Aida was billed as a Hyperion show, NOT a Disney show. It was felt, at the time, that Aida was not "family friendly" enough for the Disney brand, so Hyperion was used as the producer of the show. Disney Theatricals and Hyperion Theatricals are one and the same, except for the credit on the Playbill page.

Posted: 7/3/12 at 1:40pmInitially, yes. However, partway through the show's run, the Hyperion Theatricals moniker was eliminated, and the show became billed as "Disney Theatricals presents Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida." The show was marketed alongside the other Disney on Broadway shows, the website was part of Disney on Broadway, etc.
