"You won't succeed on Broadway" from Spamalot (DHP gets his moment, despite his lack of nomination, and it is the song everyone talks about)
I would say "Big Spender" from Charity, but Christinas not in it, so it'll probably be something else.
I want to hear Gary sing "I am what I am."

I was just getting ready to make a post on this! I think that Sutton will probably sing "Astonishing"
I think it would be cool if Norbert and John did "Dirty Rotten Number"
As for the rest, Iam not sure...
#3re: tony nominated production numbers
Posted: 5/10/05 at 2:29pmI say since Norbert and John are both Nominated "Dirty Rotten Number" is almost assured.

Usually only the nominated musicals and musical revivals perform, so I doubt we'll see anything from Sutton. Probably won't get a number from PACIFIC OVERTURES either, as its already closed.

Posted: 5/10/05 at 2:31pmYes, If Little Women was nominated then "Astonishing" would be the obvious song, since Sutton is the only one nominated.

Posted: 5/10/05 at 2:31pmI can't wait for Pandemonium! *crosses fingers*

I think Bee will do "Pandemonium."
Piazza will likely give Victoria her moment to shine and have her sing "Fable" if it's truncatable and a good cut can be made.
Spamalot should do "Find Your Grail" Or "The Song That Goes Like This" if they want to sell tickets and capitolize on their greatest musical asset (Ramirez).
Dirty Rotten likely will do their title number and give Butz and Lithgow a chance to show off their chemistry, although I also think "Love is My Legs" would work.

Posted: 5/10/05 at 2:34pmI agree that DRS is going to do "Dirty Rotten Number", though I'd be far more interested to see "All About Ruprecht" on the telecast... :)

Posted: 5/10/05 at 2:35pmAnd I think CHARITY and LA CAGE will do their respective "old standby" numbers -- BRASS BAND and WE ARE WHAT WE ARE.

i think Piazza will do Fable too, but i dont think Fable would work well out of context as representative of the show... I dont know what I would use, maybe The Beauty Is or Statues & Stories.

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels- Dirty Rotten Number -OR- Medley: Give them what they want, great big stuff, here i am
The Light in the Piazza- Fable
Monty Python's Spamalot- Knights of the Round Table (everyone's in it, and its recognizable)
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee- No clue
La Cage aux Folles- Medley: We are what we are, I am what i am (maybe this time we'll see it done in drag)
Pacific Overtures- don't know
Sweet Charity- Medley: Big spender, one of Charity's numbers

Posted: 5/10/05 at 2:54pmWhile I personally have always thought medleys are the way to go for the TONYS, apparently the American Theatre Wing asks the producers of the nominated shows specifically not to do them on the telecast.

MB, did you watch the year the DISASTROUS medley from The Wild Party was presented? They should have just let Toni shine on "Welcome to My Party." That alone would have killed the show if it hadn't already been a hard sell.

Yes and thats a good case in point about how a medley can be awful, but with something like SWEET CHARITY, I think they'd do well to do a medley of BIG SPENDER/IF THEY COULD SEE ME/BRASS BAND.
Since they only get three minutes or whatever it is this year, its pretty hard to sell your show whatever you do. Hopefully, they'll be some clever producers this year.

Posted: 5/10/05 at 3:02pmDidn't Mamma Mia have a decent medley? Or am I making that up?
#16re: tony nominated production numbers
Posted: 5/10/05 at 3:03pmI would bet Bee will do 'Magic Foot' as it stands on it's own and featured the full cast.

DRS: Dirty Rotten Number (and possibly with Sherie's reprise because all 3 were nominiated?)
Spamalot: Knights of the Round Table - its recognizable to non broadway fans has the whole cast and highlights Tim Curry and Sara Rameriz.
Spelling Bee: Don't know - never saw it.
Piazza: Fable, most likely, but I have a feeling that could end up like Lot's Wife last yea.

I'd love to see Spamalot do "Song That Goes Like This". Don't you think the Broadway song might be a bit much for a national telecast?
Charity will likely do "Brass Band", but a medly of that, along with "If My Friends Could See Me Now" and "Big Spender" would be hot.
I agree that "Fable" is Clark's best moment in Piazza, but also agree that it might not work out of context...something beautiful with O'Hara and Morrison singing might be better.
I'm thinking "La Cage" will do their title number and for DRS, i'd love to see "Great Big Stuff."

Mamma Mia had a horrific medley.
I don't think medleys generally play well on tv in the short amount of time they are given.

TGIF, the "encore" gives away the whole show. No way would they do it.
Listening to it right now, though, I'd be interested in them doing "The More We Dance".

La Cage: Probably "We Are What We Are" and maybe into "I Am What I Am"?
Sweet Charity: "Im A Brass Band" or "Big Spender"...a medley here would be nice
DRS: "Great Big Stuff" or "Dirty Rotten Number"
Spamalot: "Knights of the Round Table" (not sure here)
Bee: "Pandemonium" or the title song
The Light in the Piazza- "Fable" (although, as mentioned, it may not work well out of context *See Ms. Pinkin's performance from last year's awards)
Dont know about Pacific Overtures.
