tigger, i couldn't disagree more. the women seemed to me INCREDIBLY forced and cartoonish. I felt like I was watching two smiling robots on a predetermined track. They were playing style, but forgot to be people first. But, to each his own.

i saw the show a few nights before opening, and also thought Fontana was the standout. Glad to hear I'm not crazy. Once again, Isherwood doesn't get it. I think I may write a reader review on the times website...

oh betty, i didn't say she was a star at 10. and i didn't say i hate the woman. and I didn't say she was talentless. i just find it less than genuine when talking about her "struggles" in the business and comparing them to NY theater actor's struggles. And to read how sympathetic she is to that struggle and closing a successful show, not because it was time to move on, but because she "needed to make some money." and i agree with that other commenter, that the statement she

Betty, I have a hard time understanding how you don't see that "pounding the pavement" and making a film a year at several 10's of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of dollars per film is equal to pounding the pavement and working steadily in musicals on bway where the most you make in the ensemble is 17-1800 bucks a week. give me a break, betty.
