BEAUTIFUL - Current National Tour Mar 19

Attending the BEAUTIFUL matinee tomorrow up in Pittsburgh. Fairly excited - it’ll be my first show back up there since seeing TBV on tour last October. After this show it’ll be TKAM in 5 weeks. Very excited to see what the 2022-2023 season holds in store.

THE MUSIC MAN Previews Jan 2

Watched the piece on CBS Sunday Morning. Found it absolutely delightful. Speaking as someone who is, on a yearly basis, only vaguely familiar with Broadway and some of the most worshiped and beloved shows and it’s leads, and only does my “homework” on a show when I’m about to attend, I have no idea who Sutton Foster is. But I most certainly know of Hugh Jackman. That would be the singular reason I’d buy a ticket. And I’ve never even seen the movie The Music

Well, after a relaxing, totally gorgeous cruise to the Bahamas on Anthem of the Seas earlier this month, OKLAHOMA! is my next stop in 20 days. Hoping to hear more input from others who may have seen the show in the past month.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR 50th Anniversary Tour Nov 27

Don’t know if I ever posted pictures from when I saw it at the beginning of last year, but it may give an idea of what to expect as far as the staging (it’s sort of dimly lit, but still visible) and the posters that were in place outside the theater…

If it were to come back around I’d definitely make the effort to see it again.

If the tour comes near any of you, run to it. This is such a special production and I’m already thinking about going to see it again"

Maybe after it starts playing longer runs on the tour they’ll have a souvenir stand. I’m still 64 days out from attending, so there’s always hope!

And whether for better or worse, with the ways things are in the country right now, I think many people would prefer their grandparents Oklahoma. Something familiar and sweet with songs they know.
Avid theatre goers will know what’s up going in but I think many of the audience won’t. I suspect the reviews will be good but the audience reaction will be tepid."
The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust includes on its sales tickets page a video clip from what I assume is the Broadway production. That clip alone screams that it’s going to be a non-traditionalist version. Not sure how many season tickets subscribers have looked at this, but I’m guessing many of them won’t go in thinking it’s their grandparents Oklahoma!.

And even though the acclaimed Pittsburgh CLO has staged a production of Oklahoma! in the past, which ran in June 2019, I had no desire to see that traditional version of it. Not sure why? I am however more apt to see this new reimagined version though.

Being as I’ve never caught this on Broadway, have never seen any staged version, or have even ever watched the movie (such blasphemy! j/k LOL), is there a way to approach seeing this “reimagined” production for a “first time” Oklahoma! experience?
