Which 20th Century Musical Theatre Songwriting Duo or Songwriter's Songs Have Held Up Best?
 Apr 6 2018, 10:34:23 PM

My friends and I bantered about this the other night: In your opinion, which songwriting duo (composer, lyricist) or songwriter's (composer/lyricist) songs from 20th-century musicals have held up best?

Songwriting duo:

Rodgers & Hart - I think they've held up the best out of any musical theatre songwriters. My Funny Valentine, The Lady is a Tramp, Bewitched, Where or When, Mountain Greenery, Falling in Love With Love, This Can't Be Love, I Could Write a Book, Man

I'd forgotten about Cliff! If you only ever see the press material for CABARET, you'd think it was only about the Kit Kat Klub.

The Most Thankless Roles in Musical Theatre
 Feb 8 2018, 11:24:10 PM

In your opinion, what are the most thankless roles in musical theatre? By that I mean which roles that no matter who plays them, they (rarely) never win Tonys or the role is upstaged by that of the other lead? Here's my short list:

MY FAIR LADY: Eliza. Higgins & Alfred always get the spotlight while she does the heavy lifting.

WEST SIDE STORY: Tony & Maria.

PIPPIN: Pippin. It's always about the Leading Player. Always.

DREAMGIRLS: Lorrell.
