The responses I've received indicated that people believed that I had not seen "The Scottsboro Boys." The answer was that I had seen it. I would not recommend that it return to Broadway or even appear in Chicago. It has terribly racist and insulting imagery and acts. Most black people are offended by modern day minstrelsy since it was purposedly created to make fun of black people. A really bad, bad idea. This show brazenly touts racist imagery, jokes and stereotypes of black people. Then it has the nerve to have victims of racial injustice to sing, dance and perform buffoonery about it. This is an outrage!

Should we ridicule the wrongdoers in this type of musical comedy or just the victims??? The problem with this minstrely format was that it was created to make fun of people already in bondage!!!! Not only are blacks enslaved but also ridiculed and sterotyped through no fault of their own!!!!! That's why this show is a gross racial injustice to black people everywhere.

Under no circumstances should "The Scottsboro Boys" return to Broadway or any other theater stage. It was an ill-conceived racist show. Due to the insulting minstrelsy format, the serious nature of the injustices suffered by the Scottsboro men was presented in a terribly comical way. We must remember that these men were victims!!!
