How "kiddie" is The Lightning Thief?

I took my 9-year-old to see it at the beginning of the national tour, and went in totally blind with no knowledge of the books. I had mentally prepared myself for it being entirely mediocre. I spent part of the first act in a befuddled "WHAT AM I WATCHING?!?" state, but you know what? They totally won me over by the end of the show. My 10-year-old son has been yearning to complete the collection of autographs on his Cursed Child playbill by snagging Jamie Parker and Paul Thornley, so I'm considering taking him to the flea market this year to make it happen. BCEFA says that anyone entering the autograph table must make a donation, and I'd rather not shell out the cash for three people (the kiddo with the Playbill, myself, and his younger brother who will be in tow and has zero interest in any of this).
