Cynthia Erivo as Harriet Tubman

Mister Matt said: "Just so I can understand precisely where to correctly target my fury, we're specifically outraged that Cynthia accepted the role that was offered to her because of her heritage, which is something she cannot change or control, but NOT at the people who offered her the role. All the responsibility of the casting falls squarely on her shoulders. Okay. I just want to make sure the discrimination is super duper specific and absurdly disproportionate as we fight to end this very very very very specific perceived discrimination against African Americans by discriminating black people who are not specifically African-Americans-descended-very-specific-tribes. Don't get me wrong, discrimination is BAD. But it can be perfectly acceptable depending on how you justify it. It will always be BAD. Except for when I say it's not. Yeah, that sounds right.

I haven't followed her social media stuff, but maybe that's a better reason for avoiding this choice of casting, and you know, directing anger towards her for something she's actually done and for which she could be held as the responsible party.

By the way, why does this particular form of indignation by Writergirl28 sound so familiar? The specificity of the justificationreminds me of some other event that happened and was discussed on these boards. Probably unrelated. Or maybe not"

She said yes to the role, when she says she had turned down other roles that she felt she was not right for. So she is aware that there is some space she should not inhabit. Now she doesn't say what those roles were but I will take her word for it. For the last time, non-black American actors are treated better by white Americans than black Americans. This is a known fact. This trend has been noticed by many people in the casting of good films about African Americans. And people have said that Black Americans are not qualified to play themselves. I know for a fact that is what happened here because there are literally thousands of black American actresses who would have played the role better than her. If you are not African American you need to stay out of this argument, because YOU are actually the cause of it.

For a movement that should aim to break down barriers and have individuals live peacefully together, you’re doing an awful job at it. Just another case of left-wing ideologies going so extreme they are closer aligned to racist right-ring ideas than any progressive ones. Cynthia Erivo is an INDIVIDUAL PERSON. A PERSON. She shou

I think you just want to complain about stuff to complain about stuff. The casting crew felt confident in Erivo. Be glad the Role isnt being played by a white person. You are literally complaing about a black actress being cast in a black role.

You cant get upset over someone literally doing the

She may be, but absolutely no one knows who she is, well, until this past weekend and when some of her other movies come out, namely Widows. She must really be good, huh? It's taken her about 2 years to do what it's taken Viola Davis about 20 plus years to do. But know this, she will never be as big a star as Viola.

I mean come on guys, you like Hamilton right? You are aware that Lin wrote it because African American and Hispanic actors had no roles written for them? So why is it hard to understand that when there are no roles in movies for African Americans and when one finally gets written after decades, and ti's given to a formally unknown British chick, you don't think they'd be a little pissed?

"Ran"t? Are you sure that's the word that you want to use, robskynyc? Maybe you'd like to use a more "femme" word?

Who says I can't? I guess you could say that I am promoting the interests of black Americans over immigrants, however, historically, the government has actually done that. Immigrants have actually gotten laws written just for them, well, except for the Civil Rights Act, which the "native" blacks as you might say got passed in the sixties. Funny

you’re not.

Any questions?

I think, black women are by definition, "woke" and you would be, in the position of having to attain "wokeness", not me. So, it would probably be impossible for me to try to be what I already am?

If you go back and read what I wrote, I never mentioned anything about acting ability. I spoke about access and who has it and who is deemed worthy of getting it.

And saying to me that I should just be happy that a movie is being made, that's like telling someone who was never given a birthday party until they were 20, but the cake is someone else's and you don't get to cut it or eat it.

Guys, I am one of the "internet trolls" whose has been talking about  Cynthia Erivo playing Harriet. I will try to explain to you what the issue is. Il hope you will listen with an open mind to what I have to say. I am a Descendant of  American Chattel  Slavery living in this country for over 250 years. A DACS. You know the history of slavery correct? Brought over to America, to work for free, beaten, murdered, mutilated, raped, lynched, etc. Kept from going to colleg
