Cheryl King Productions at Stage Left Studio is now accepting submissions for the 2009 Left Out Festival, which will take place between April 16 and 27, 2009. We are looking particularly for one-person shows—solo plays, cabaret acts, stand-up comedy, monologues, and spoken word. “Gay” does not have to be the entire theme of the piece, but, as it is a “gay festival”, we are specifically inviting artists to submit material with gay themes. We wish to celebrate same spirit of fun, open celebration of gay performance art that we created in our 2008 Left Out Festival. Deadline for submissions is January 15, 2009. The jury process will be concluded by February 15, 2009. There are no submission fees associated with the festival, which gives a portion of all proceeds to Bailey House and Gay Men’s Health Crisis. In 2008, the Left Out Festival donated $2600 to these beneficiaries. Each show selected for the Left Out Festival will be scheduled for one performance per week. Additionally, each show will have its own page on our website, www.leftoutfestival.com, where we will list information about the artists, creative team, and other promotional materials. The marketing staff at Stage Left Studio will invite reviewers to each performance and will list all the performances on websites focusing on theatre in New York. At the conclusion of the festival, the three shows that are most successful with critics and audiences will be offered a slot in Left Out/Left In, an extension of the festival. This extended performance schedule will be based on Stage Left Studio's and the performer's available dates. Performers will share a portion of the profits from this extended run. (Left Out/Left In ’0 In addition to marketing assistance, the Left Out Festival provides a lighting and sound technician, one tech rehearsal and one dress rehearsal. One of the producers of the Left Out Festival will be present to provide assistance during either the tech or dress rehearsal for each show.
