AMAZING GRACE Previews Jul 19

I felt that the major, glaring, distracting flaw in this show is that the institution of slavery just can't be a secondary plot alongside a love story, a father-son drama, etc.
The brutality of slavery, shown very vividly in the piece, (ie; pregnant women beaten and multiple people branded) is a horror that (for me and my companion) completely overwhelmed the other aspects of the plot.
Not sure how this could have been addressed more carefully/ se

Worst show mishap Jul 19
2013, 08:16:15 PM
Many, many years ago a row boat with some drunken fishermen floated through the moat across the front of the stage during a musical at the Jones Beach Theater (Annie Get Your Gun?) I remember the actors on stage freezing in place until they passed

Any news about the Broadway production of CHIX 6? I enjoyed it at Queens Theater In the Park several years ago and haven't heard anything about it since...

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson. Didn't "get it". Didn't like it. Wanted to walk out (but it only had one act and we were sitting in the center of the row)

Yes, I miss the good-natured, energetic, fun, "pick-me-up" experience of Xanadu! Nothing like it since...

Spiderman Preview Thread! Jan 29

My two cents- Attended Thursday night's performance- technically smooth (no one physically stuck, tangled or injured) but plot/book, music/sound, design/"flying effects", AWFUL (jumbled/confused, overwhelming/underwhelming, overdone/ underdone)... My favorite line (but not worth the ticket price) "I have descended from the astral plane with the help of human shoes."- Arachne

Off the top of my head, in no particular order, sat next to or near: Sondheim (Big, Miss Margarita's Way & at Absinthe) Neil Young (Orpheus Descending with Vanessa Redgrave) Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward (Met Opera) Madonna and Rosie O'Donnell (a fundraiser at the Beacon) Martina Navratilova (a fundraiser at Radio City) Snoop Dog & entourage (Julius Caesar with Denzel Washington) Joel Grey (Pee Wee on Broadway) Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O'Con

Toronto Star Reviews Spiderman Jan 29
2011, 06:46:43 PM
Completely agree with the Toronto Star Review- saw the show on Thursday night and "awful" is the word- love Lion King (have seen it 5 times) and U2 (have seen them in concerts several times) but found very little to like in Spider-Man... Also, from conversations with fellow audience members it seemed that many of them were in comped seats (I wasn't)... little/scattered applause at the end.
