I think Nicole being in the stronger production will push her ahead, slightly.

AUDRA GYPSY Reviews Jan 2
2025, 09:30:57 AM
Saw this about a week before opening, and agree with many of these points. Burstein was surprisingly hollow, but then I remembered I felt the same way about him in Cabaret 10 years ago. Herbie is a nothing burger if the actor playing him is not making a meal of what is on the page. Woods does not have enough gas in the tank to deliver on Louise’s arc. It’s just not there. I would have also loved if Wolfe trimmed a few minutes off the run time. Many of the scene transitions felt ve

What notable shows did you MISS? Dec 22
2024, 09:17:42 PM
Blanchett in Streetcar at BAM. Had a ticket, fell asleep, and missed the performance.
Metcalf in Virginia Woolf. I too had tickets to see it in April 2020. I truly hope that performance has a second life.

Yep, but this makeup line is intentionally and especially noticeable. Again, receive that how you will.

I was in the second row, and June absolutely had a noticeable make up line, showing the actor’s natural skin tone, and the visibly lighter foundation being used. There is no two ways about that. Feel what you want, but June is made up to lean into her lighter skin tone.

Scherzinger in SUNSET BLVD. Dec 12

Caught this and another revival directly across the street yesterday. My money is on Nicole (and the production) to take some serious Tony wins this summer. Gypsy is a better show by a country mile, and frankly I do not think SB is a “good” musical, but this production of Sunset is jaw dropping.

Still gathering my thoughts, but a lot of it worked. Some of it, however, did not. - The trumpet solo during the fully lit overture did not thrill like it can.
- Tulsa could not handle the vocals of the role, despite having not a lot to do vocally, as written.
- The choreography does not land. If you’re going to not use the original, at least come up with something wonderful in its place. Dance numbers looked like everyone was in week two of rehearsals,

I have tickets to see this in mid December. I knew Audra would sing it completely different than her predecessors, however I was left disappointed a day or two ago after hearing the audio of two numbers. I listened to those same recordings again this morning, and something clicked. Let her do her own thing. She is a national treasure, and once McDonald lands, as she always does, the performance will be stunning. This is the first NY production that does not have the shadow (and input) of the

Cate Blanchett to star in THE SEAGULL at the Barbican Theatre in London Oct 9

I had a ticket to that production at BAM, woke up sick the day of the performance, and decided to lie down a bit before leaving to attend the show. I ended up waking up about an hour into the performance, at home, and have never forgiven myself for missing that one. That production of Streetcar

Gavin Creel has passed away Sep 30

First met Gavin at Shoshana Bean’s Halloween party in 2005 on the second floor of Therapy on 52nd street. Shoshana ended up not attending, and there were a handful of Broadway names circulating throughout the venue. The only one who bothered to talk to us civilians was Gavin. And I agree, whenever he spoke to you, you were the most important person in the room, it seemed. So incredibly kind, and generous with his time, on top of being extraordinarily talented. Audra McDonald-led GYPSY for 2024-2025 Season! Sep 23
2024, 07:11:22 PM
Kad said: "June is a pretty thankless role, imo. I would easily rank it behind Herbie, Louise, and even any of the stripper trio- the strippers get less stagetime but they get easily one of the best songs in the show and there's a lot more room for reinterpretation of those characters."
Leigh Ann Larkin made an absolute meal of that role in the LuPone revival, so the material certainly supports character development for June.

Why Did You Join BWW? Sep 21
2024, 11:21:20 AM
I stumbled upon the Broadway.com message board in 2002 while researching whether or not Molly Ringwald was still in Cabaret at the time. I was immediately sucked in, and absolutely adored reading the musings of seasoned theatre goers. Broadway.com put the kibosh on their message board when some users (such as username Machoman, later Finding Namo) got a little too heated, and the website dropped the message board to protect their brand.
Shortly thereafter I found BWW, and posted f
