Casting Gone Wrong Jul 25
2011, 12:32:11 PM
John Stamos and Gina Gershon in last year's disastrous Bye Bye Birdie. I wanted to like it so much I hated it. Harvey Fierstein and Rosie ODonnell in Fiddler on the Roof. The worst, worst, worst casting (did I say that enough times??) I had ever seen. She could not remember a line and played it as more of a Jewish characature than the actual role. He was just a hint better.

Musicals that use music not written for theatre OR by those who conceived it. Jul 25

I am not a huge fan of jukebox musicals, but I do go and there are some that I have enjoyed. I think when the play has a decent and almost real story to tell, it makes it all the better. I love Jersey Boys, and I enjoyed Baby It's You and Million Dollar Quartet. There were good stories to tell and they have some substance to them. While I enjoyed Mamma Mia prior to its arrival in NY (I saw it in Canada 11 years ago) I really did not like it when it got here. I have seen other juke box musicals
