TOMMY To Close on July 21, 2024 Jun 26
2024, 01:17:53 PM
Shucked didn't close because of money.
Tommy was originally supposed to go to the Lunt, then Sweeney extended, so Tommy needed a new home. So Shucked was closed prematurely in favor of making space for Tommy. The bet was that Shucked's numbers would dip during the winter and Tommy would go in and make more money.
Shucked was pushed out for Tommy, but it was really because of Sweeney. The bet was put on the future of Tommy vs. the continued existence of Shucked.

Maybe October? Swept Away being open in November is probably a solid bet.

THE HEART OF ROCK AND ROLL Opening Night Critics’ Revies Jun 17

Every week with the numbers that they've had, it's less likely it will still be here much longer.
It deserves to be seen, so everyone should just go if you can.

You didn’t really say much different than what I did. The house they want is currently occupied and Tonys will probably affect whether it will be free in the fall. However, they have a home otherwise, and there is a rumor of where that is (again, unless a different Shubert house - the one they want - opens up). They have an agreement with the Shuberts so we know it will go to one of those houses.

I think they know where they’re going or at least have options depending on what happens in the next few months. My guess is they’ve signed some sort of agreement with the Shuberts and have a theatre unless a better one opens up in time.

It’s because the AB had a concert tonight and released their album, I believe. They announced at the concert.

The Wiz is a 20 week limited engagement set to go back out on tour. It's also selling moderately well... its future wasn't wrapped up in Tony noms.

(Insert Name or Show) Was Robbed! Apr 30

Seems like a deliberate message to the mostly Chicago-based production team, if I had to guess.
I personally was expecting it to get a lot of unearned nominations and I think the noms actually went to better shows, for the most part. Lorin should have been nominated for Tommy though (and I would also argue HORR).

In all honesty, that show should have at least gotten best choreo. and sound design nominations.

Every single person I know who saw Cabaret in the West End loved it. I think the reception to it reminds me a lot of the year Matilda came to Broadway - critics (Ben Brantley aside, oddly) didn't like it but it almost felt like it was this "this was popular on the West End and we are BROADWAY" chip on everyone's shoulder and it wasn't liked just because it was a hit over there. I could be wrong but that's the vibe I get with Cabaret.
I think it's probably
