Memorable Moments on Stage in 2024? Dec 29

Just chiming in with my additional 7th choice.
Admittedly, I'm not surprised it slipped my mind since I found every moment of Three Houses enchanting, helped greatly by Dave Malloy's addictive music. But looking back on it, Sadie's New Mexico story sticks with me the most. Two particular moments stand out for me: - 'Put the quarter in/Push, push, push/Nothing comes out' (might paraphrasing the lyrics slightly, but that

Memorable Moments on Stage in 2024? Dec 28

6 personal ones for me: - All of the musical moments in Stereophonic. In addition to just being a good play, everything about that show was what I go to the theater for; it took a setting that (to my knowledge) hasn't been depicted onstage before and the result was the perfect definition of a play with music - it all blended together so well, with neither overpowering the other

What notable shows did you MISS? Dec 22

I still occasionally kick myself for missing the 2018 revival Three Tall Women.
I was kicking myself most of this year for missing Dead Outlaw, but thankfully I'll have my chance in a few months.

CULT OF LOVE Previews Nov 23
2024, 05:02:56 PM
Just got back from the matinee and wanted to chime in. As I mentioned in a previous thread, I had been waiting a few years to finally see a production of this play - it was well worth the wait. I found it to be well-written, funny in all the right places, not heavy-handed, and incredibly well performed (and sung) by the ensemble.
As far as the spoilery questions above: |
MCC's 'SH!T. MEET. FAN.' Cast Announced Nov 2

The ending is definitely something to chew on; I've never seen the original film or any of its remakes, but from what I understand, the original film (and, by extension, I imagine the remakes) ends the same way. After mulling it over a bit (saw the matinee on Thursday, found it enjoyable enough), my interpretation is Click Here To Toggle Spoiler Content

I only set up this account 3 years ago to start a thread when I was gathering research for a play I'm working on, but I want to say I started regularly visiting this forum some time around 2010/2011. I have some fond-ish memories of a now-defunct theatre-themed social media site that I was a member on in the late 2000s-early 2010s (I want to say it was called either BroadwaySpace or TheatreWorld). It was kind of fun gossiping and discussing a subject I cared so deeply about (and

I saw her (and the play) on Monday and liked both. Not sure if you've seen the play, but I'll say this: The writing is honest and matter-of-fact, but with the right amount of humor and moments of levity needed when dealing with such a heavy topic. Edie Falco's role isn't exactly showy, at least compared to her cast mates, but she nailed every line and every feeling, creating an in

2024-25 Second Stage on Broadway season announced Jun 25
2024, 02:25:00 PM
Cult of Love has been on my mind for some time now, ever since WTF was supposed to do it as part of their 2020 season, so I'm incredibly pleased to finally get the chance to see it. That production had some pretty great people attached as well (Kate Burton, Taylor Schilling, Michael Esper, Dylan Baker among others); perhaps at least one of them might be able to find their way into this staging. Either way, I'm looking forward to it.

Performances at the 2024 Tony Awards Jun 6
2024, 02:40:22 PM
My personal predictions now that I've seen all the nominees and we know (so far) what is performing: - Cabaret: At least a little bit of 'Wilkomenn' going into 'Cabaret'
- Hell's Kitchen: Possibly 'Kaleidoscope', but I really could see them going with 'Empire State of Mind' (for obvious reasons); however, if they don't do 'Empire State of Mind' for their performance and the show wins Best Musical, I coul

77th Tony Awards Performance Predictions May 8

For the most part, I'll only comment on what I've seen so far.
BEST MUSICAL - Hell's Kitchen: 'Kaleidoscope' seems like the fan-favorite choice, but I wouldn't be surprised if they go with 'Empire State of Mind'; it would include all four nominees and it's certainly popular/relevant
- The Outsiders: Haven't seen it yet, but 'Great Expectations' seems to be their "signature song&q

Personal Non-Eligable "Should Have Been Nominated" List (2023/2024 Season) May 2
2024, 05:40:16 PM
In the lead-up to the Tonys, I always find NYT's "Who Will Win (and Who Should)" interesting, particularly the "Should Have Been Nominated" category, in which they will sometimes include non-eligible productions or performers. Looking back on the past season, I can think of a few notable Off-Broadway standouts; thus, I've decided to try out a list of my own. Of course I would love to hear your own choices and opinions as well (and feel free to include any of t

A hangover is self-inflicted and you did this to yourself knowing you were attending a show. Next, you went to a show with a cold and or fever a couple of times and had no regard to others around you that you may have gotten sick. There are options like selling a ticket when you are sick or maybe exchanging it for another date. You said you attended a show at 16

Seeing a show when you're not feeling great Apr 21
2024, 01:44:40 PM
In my twenty-something years of theatre-going, I can recall a couple of times when I sat through a show despite not feeling too well. I have endured a number of Act 1’s while experiencing an upset stomach; on at least two occasions I’ve gone to the theatre hungover; there have been a few times I watched a show when I wasn’t in a great place mentally/emotionally; back in February I saw The Seven Year Disappear while recovering from a cold (which, due to thee fact tha

Cabaret stunt casting Apr 12
2024, 08:31:11 PM
It's not stunt casting, but depending on how long the show runs, I would like Carolee Carmello and/or Victoria Clark to get a chance at Fraulein Schneider.
Also, random thought: I have no idea if he'd want to do it, but Kieran Culkin has the right kind of energy for the Emcee.

Apparently Bart Sher would love to direct is Man of La Mancha some day (https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.php?thread=1108047&page=3).
I think that show and that score would be a lovely send-off for André Bishop.

Denzel Washington to return to Broadway in OTHELLO? Jan 31

There was some chatter a few years ago of a revival starring Denzel, with the addition of Al Pacino as Iago.
I can't see Pacino being involved in this production, but Patrick Page is certainly always reliable.
Honestly, though, if it weren't for Kenneth Branagh bringing King Lear to NYC so soon, I would rather see Denzel take on that role instead (he's expressed interest in the past).
