A.C.T. will close its 2022/23 season with the world premiere of the pre-Broadway musical, Soul Train (August 25-October 1, 2023). Get ready for "the hippest trip in America" with the world premiere of Soul Train, the Broadway-bound musical based on the iconic TV show that brought Black music, dance, and style into every living room in America. Journey back to 1971 Chicago, when Black entrepreneur and radio DJ Don Cornelius transformed the pop culture landscape by recognizing the lack of Black musical artists on television. Within a year, his local dance show went national and became one of the longest running shows in television history. Elegant, determined, and complicated, Cornelius set trends for nearly 40 years by giving a stage-and a camera-to the artists who created the soundtrack of multiple generations, and to the dancers, includingRosie PerezandJody Watley, who became superstars."
I really hope that I can get on Soul Train

"Even as a controversy has erupted on Broadway over the use of pre-recorded music in the upcoming David Byrne musical,Here Lies Love, audiences for some musicals this past season are noticing the return of something that was once familiar: big orchestras.""
Big orchestras are something every fan of David Byrne's musical should see and hear

AMADEUS Revival with Anthony Ramos Jun 5

Well this is incredibly random. Both the news itself, as well as the way in which it was dropped. I haven't listened to the podcast, but from the pull quote, it sounds like it's a done deal? Has anyone heard anything about this? Did I miss some rumors?
Mozart is a good role for Ramos - I can definitely see it. Extremely curious who would be directing, and of course, who the Salieri would be. Not a huge fan of this play, personally, but I could definitely get excited depending on the names/creatives behind it."
The composition of those who will play very worthy in my opinion

LEOPOLDSTADT limited TV series in the works May 23

EXCLUSIVE: This is early stage, no deals are done and it might not land until the strike’s over, but the most celebrated play to come along in a good long time is to be turned into a limited TV series with top talent. The play is Sir Tom Stoppard’s Leopoldstadt, which had a successful West End run before moving to Broadway last September. I’ve heard that Amblin and executive producer Steven Spielberg are shopping it with Patrick Marber adapting (the Closer writer/director was the play’s original director when it opened in London and he directed the current Broadway incarnation also), and the series will be directed by Stephen Daldry, The Crown multiple Emmy winner."
I remember when I saw the news I could not believe it at first. I am personally looking forward to it and hope it works out for them!

Did Schubert and Nederlander ever co-produce May 18

At the moment, all of Mr. Nederlander's Broadway theaters are filled. That is why, in a rare incidence of detente, he produced ''Nicholas Nickleby'' with the rival Shubert Organization. ''I had the rights to it,'' he explains. ''I have a relationship with the Royal Shakespeare Company. I'm on their board. I thought 'Nicholas Nickleby' was one of the greatest things I'd ever seen, but I didn't have a theater for it. The Shuberts had a theater. I produced the Royal Shakespeare Company's 'Sherlock Holmes' with the Shuberts for the same reason. I didn't have a theater to play the show in.''
Gerald Schoenfeld and Bernard Jacobs, who head the Shubert Organization, and Mr. Nederlander are often not on speaking terms. But they were brought together for ''Nicholas Nickleby'' by Miss McCann, who began her career as a factotum in Mr. Nederlander's office and has managed to remain close to both producing organizations. They are charging $100 - the highest in Broadway history - for all seats to ''Nicholas Nickleby,'' a stage adaptation of the Dickens novel that lasts eight and a half hours.
''We won't make any money,'' Mr. Nederlander says in defense of the $100 tickets. ''The show is just too expensive. I think it will break even or lose a little. I said to Bernie Jacobs, 'Not everything is commercial. ''Nickleby'' should be done for the sake of the arts here.' We each put up half of the money, $500,000 each.''"
Interesting article as I am very fond of this atmosphere
