Frozen on Broadway - Where did they go wrong?
 May 15 2020, 04:20:49 PM

I saw the show on December and it was by far my least favorite, out of the 7 shows I saw on my trip. I agree with everything others have said but am I the only one that really hated the score ? Besides Let it Go and maybe a couple of other numbers, all the new songs fell flat on their face. It was boring and unispiring ballad after ballad, for no reason and without driving the story forward. I had such high hopes for this, I love Disney, love Lopez, loved the film but at some point, I just co

Thank you ! It's funny, it wasn't even on my radar, because back when it opened, I remember reading a lot of negativity here about it and since I was never a big fan of the movie, I gave up on it. But lately, when I decided to add another show to my list and looked better into it, it looks like spectacular, mindless FUN, which sounds like the best way to start my December Broadway week !

Well, Beetlejuice it is and it filled my last remaining spot. A 4th row left orchestra aisle seat at a great discounted price, made my decision easier. I am so happy and excited ! 7 shows (Beetlejuice, Hadestown, Dear Evan Hansen, Moulin Rouge, Little Shop of Horrors, Come from Away and Frozen) plus the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, which I've never seen, in 5 days ! December can't come soon enough. Thank you all for your input and opinions. Broadway here I come !!!

DCDrama2, you changed things !!! I was getting ready to get a Beetlejuice ticket, since it sounds like I will enjoy it more (thank you ALL for your input) and there are great seats at great discounted prices and then I learn this !!! I LOVE Katharine McPhee and Waitress has a lot of great seats left for my date ! If there was a small chance they could get Jeremy Jordan again (who is my absolute favorite performer) for the last month, I would be in sheer Heaven ! There is not, is there ???

The thing is that, from the start, I could never get too interested in Waitress, its subject matter is just not that appealing to me. I admit I don't know much about it but from everything I have glimpsed, it looks way too small, sweet and mellow for my taste but of course, I could be wrong. But the draw of seeing Katharine McPhee is indeed big to ignore, so now I am at a cross point between this and Beetlejuice...I am still leaning towards Beetlejuice but.. decisions, decisions...

Hello dramamama,

I understand perfectly what you are saying but nothing makes me happier than seeing a Broadway show when in New York, so even if I am not that enthusiastic about a show, it is still my preferred choice of a thing to do. Something about being in a Broadway Theater, no matter what I am seeing, fills my heart with joy and excitement ! This is my 5th time visiting the city, so I have done different staff and it's been 4 years since my last trip, so thankfully there are lots of shows to see in 5 days. I will be travelling alone, so I prefer seeing a show, since most of the other options, like dinner, a jazz club, etc. are much better enjoyed with company.

Also, I live in Athens, Greece, which does have a LOT of Theater of Off-Broadway style as well as various clubs but no big shows with the amazing production values that Broadway has, so I always tend to stick mostly to Broadway when I visit, since this is the thing that I can never get back home. But I will get my sort-of off-Broadway flavor with Little Shop of Horrors I recognize the importance of Fiddler but I was never a fan of it.

Hello everyone,

I have an empty spot on Tuesday evening for my December 10-15 trip. Initially I wanted to leave the day open and try for Hamilton last minute tickets, since I would love to see it again after London. But I've been checking daily on both TM and StubHub and it looks like the lower price for decent seats is around the $250 - $300 mark with fees and this is too much, for a show I have already seen. Plus, I will be staying in DC before and after my New York trip and

Hey delilah,

I meant that it was the final schedule update since everythng is set, not my final post.   I definitely love talking with kind members like you ! Love Jonathan too but depends on the quantity of spit I will receive, will get back to you on that !

I was also quite happily surprised about the Hadestown ticket. I have been checking very often one or two days ahead, to see what the trend is for last minute tickets and usually, a few in  the middle of Center Orch pop-up at around the $145 - $200 mark. Nothing last minute for Mezz though, ever ! So, as I was checking today for the actual date I want, after looking at the $300, $400 and even a couple over that, I noticed that Side Orch had some $199 ones (without fees). So, since this is a show I definitely want to see, I decided to grab it, instead of taking a last minute risk for not much price difference. I am not forgettting that I am visiting just before Xmas and perhaps last-minute demand will be much higher then, than right now. By all accounts and if I remember correctly (I saw Gentleman's Guide there) the theater is small and Row N is not that far back, the seat is not far to the side, so I believe I will be fine !

I am happy that I am seeing everything I wanted to see, plus a couple of last-minute impulse buys, like Little Shop and Come from Away and excited because I will be seeing different type of shows, from spectacular like MR and Frozen to poignant and deeper ones like DEH and HADESTOWN and from feel-good simple ones like CFA to Off Browaday like Little Shop !

I know I'll love them all but can't wait to see, which one is going to be my favorite !

UPDATE and Final one, I promise.

Just got my DEAR EVAN HANSEN tickets for Orch 2nd Row Center AND as I was looking at HADESTOWN Matinee for that Wednesday and getting dizzy from the prices, noticed that the Side Orch Row N had a somehow logical price ($200), compared to other pricing, so grabbed a ticket, 2 seats from aisle ! I remembered MollyJeanne Music's advice here, to sit on the Left side !

So, I am all set and the only thing will be to look for a last minute single ticket for Hamilton on Tuesay, the day of my arrival. If I get one, great, if I don't, it's Ok I I am bummed though that, TM doesn't allow you to get a Single ticket when there are two together, though I understand the reason. Does the Box Office sell singles, if they show up as available on TM ?

delilah thank you, I will be checking StubHub for both Hadestown and Hamilton last minute and hope for the best !

Miles, I know about Jonathan's spitting and being Front Row I have to see how that will turn out LOL. I definitely checked if he is playing, since he is the main reason I am seeing the show.

By the way, on a side note, Miles I read the reports from your trip and enjoyed your reviews and was SO touched about your experience with Madonna ! Being a HUGE fan

My December Broadway Trip !

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to give you an Update, for anyone interested and for the wonderful members, who offered their thoughts, since I finalized my plan and bought most of my tickets. My Trip will be December 10-15 and here is my Final Broadway plan:

TUESDAY, December 10, I am leaving this open, to try for last minute HADESTOWN or HAMILTON good tickets at a reasonable price. So far, one or two days before the show, tickets pop-up at great seats and lower prices, so hopefully this will continue to be the case for December.

WEDNESDAY matinee. To my surprise, HAMILTON doesn't have a matinee that day ! So if I can find a good HADESTOWN last minute ticket, I will do HAM on Tuesday Eve and Hadestown today. I have seen Hamilton in London and as much as I would love to see it again, if it can't happen, it's fine.

WEDNESDAY Afternoon DEAR EVAN HANSEN, lots of tickets available, so I haven't booked yet but plan to, soon.

THURSDAY Afternoon Moulin Rouge, Tickets booked 4th row center

FRIDAY Afternoon LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS tickets booked Front Row center

SATURDAY Matinee COME FROM AWAY. I trust all recommendations saying it's unmissable, so I took the plunge and bought tickets, 3rd row center Orch.

SATURDAY Evening FROZEN, Tickets booked 4th row center.

I am very happy and excited and December can't come soon enough !

So, my post is odd but you analyzing all my words is normal, right ? I still don't get YOUR problem, other than that you must have way too much free time ! Did anyone forced you to participate ? Are you the Board's Police ? Impressive, for a member who just joined 2 months ago !

But thanks for reminding me why I stopped posting on this board all these years, as did so many of the Original members, who were here from the beginning. Because of people like you...Let's leav

MollyJeanneMusic said:

Another nice place to see Hadestown (especially since you said a lot of last-minute tickets are for the orchestra) is towards the back of the theatre, a little left of center. That's where my family and I sat when we saw the show, and we could see the sets and lighting pretty perfectly. In general, no matter where you sit, try to go left of center instead of right - the farther right you go, the more chance you have of missing a pretty pivotal moment

My December Broadway Trip !

Thank you again, everyone,

I plan to start booking tickets for my 3 unmissable shows this coming week (MR, DEH and Frozen) and it looks like availability right now for good (expensive) seats is MUCH better for the week of December 10-14, compared to Dec 3-7, so it looks like my trip is 95% locked for then. I will do DEH for Wed evening, MR for Thursday evening and Frozen on Friday evening and leave Tuesday, the day of my arrival and Wed matinee open, to look for Hadestown and Hamilton last minute tickets. If I don't get Hamilton, I will think of something else, maybe TINA (though it looks almost sold out from now for December, wow). I am not that interested in Tootsie, Come from Away or Waitress and have seen most of the other long running ones. Maybe revisit Book of Mormon as a last resort.

I had initially thought of the Inheritance for Wednesday but as great as it sounds, I can't spend almost a whole day out of the 4 I have in a theater, for a 7 hour play... I am usually tired from all the walking and have fallen momentarily asleep a lot of times in plays, the only one that didn't happen was Harry Potter in London but that was because I am a huge fan

Hello everyone and thank you so much for your useful comments, I knew I could count on you, keep them coming !

I hadn't thought about Mezannine for Frozen, food for thought and as for Hadestown, most of good last minute tickets I've been checking are Orchestra, I don't remember having seen a really good Mezanine ticket popping up but if one pops up at that time, I will seriously take all your advice into consideration ! I always have the feeling that Mezannine puts a distan

My December Broadway Trip !

Hello everyone !

Loooong time member here, haven't posted in ages but I always visit and read your posts, since it is the best way to stay connected to my beloved Broadway scene !

I will be staying in Washington DC from late November to early January and there was, of course, nothing that could stop me, from travelling for a few weekdays to NYC and getting a good dose of some, much-needed, Broadway magic !

I initially thought of being in the city December 3-7, since from what I remember reading here, the week right after Thanksgiving, is a relatively good one for finding good tickets. But lately I have been also contemplating the next one, December 10-14, since availability for the shows I plan to buy tickets very soon, looks even better. Please keep in mind that I like to sit up close and have a flexible budget but not for the crazy prices some shows ask. So, the shows I plan on seeing are:

Tuesday Evening - Wednesday Matinee HADESTOWN - HAMILTON

This is open, depending on availability. I would love to see Hadestown but not at the crazy prices I see at Ticketmaster. By checking TM the last couple of weeks, it looks like there are always great last minute tickets, popping up a day of two before that I could snatch. But I don't know if that would be the case in December. Thoughts ?

I have seen Hamilton in London and fell in love with it. Again, almost every day, a coupe of side Orch seats pop up at around the $230 mark, that I would be willing to get, in order to revisit this amazing show. But again, I don' t know if this will be the case in early December. This is the only show that I would love to see again but if I don't, it's OK.

Wednesday Evening DEAR EVAN HANSEN

It wasn't on my radar, for some reason, don't know why, I just wasn't very interested but I lately changed my mind and want to catch it. There are 2nd Row center Orchestra seats and also Front Row mezannine seats available. I am an Orchestra guy, love being up close, especially on an emotional show like this but I think that this is a show that can also really be enjoyed from the Mezannine. Thoughts ?

Thursday Evening MOULIN ROUGE

This is the #1 unmissable show for me and the only one I will spent that obscene Premium Price ticket of $399 for Front Row Center Orch. I have never paid that much but seeing this show and...well...Aaron from so close, is worth it for me .TM is crazy, it used to be $299 until a week ago for those dates but now it shot up to $399, with some seats right next to those, going for $499. Actually there is more availability for the week of December 10-14, which is the reason that I am thinking that, since I will pay all that money anyway, why not move my whole trip that week and be closer to Xmas. Thoughts ?

Friday FROZEN

I know that reviews are not that great but I am a Disney fan and I am not missing it. And Premium Front Central Orchestra for any date is $150, so compared to other shows I am happy to get it.

So, any help, thoughts and advice from the wonderful community here will be much appreciated ! Thanks in advance

"Your opinion would hold more weight if you weren't a Madonna fan. Your bias is showing.. "

Yes, I never concealed that fact, I love her to death, is that a crime ? Is this a thread that only her haters should post ? But I adore her as an artist, she is not my friend and I have no problem believing that she is a total bitch and I don't care about it, to be honest, since her personal behavior doesn't affect my life.

As i said, i found what she did reprehensible but she is not the first person EVER in a theater to do it and it's neither the end of the world nor did it stop the show, to induce such hate-spewing comments. Some people here took it more personally than even Lin Manuel himself did, for crying out loud and started not criticizing the FACT but talking about her age, her artistic merity, her career, her success and so on. And I find this unfair to anyone and I would react the same. It shows immaturity and personal issues.

At least that's what I believe. Can we move on now, please ?

Well, if we REALLY want to be real, so would those who are attacking her, if it was somebody THEY loved. They would rush to find excuses from medical emergencies to trouble at home LOL It's human nature and it doesn't only apply to Madonna fans but all fans.

And I agree with songanddanceman2, what she did was unjustifiable an
