I have expressed my opinion about the show’s casting choice under my old username (there’s a glitch I haven’t been able to fix for the moment), but I don’t think one can look at last week’s box office results and draw any particular conclusions. It was a bit underwhelming, the lowest for a Criss week of the show since just after the Tony Awards.

A few years ago, Follies at the San Francisco Playhouse. Natascia Diaz might not be your first guess for Sally Durant Plummer, but she was heartbreaking. It was a fine cast overall.

I wanted to like this more than I did. Hawke does a lot of work as Hart and has the ability to disappear into a role, even if the attempt to make him look short felt like a lot of effort. It’s a sad story but I didn’t feel like I learned enough about Hart that wasn’t established early on.
Margaret Qualley’s character may be based on a real person who corresponded with Hart but I didn’t find her character all that interesting. I saw what the writer was goin
