BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN Previews Oct 4
2017, 05:34:41 PM
Thx! That post was about tickets going on sale and was seven pages long. When I checked last night, no one had posted about the actual show so I thought maybe it needed a new posting devoted to previews,. That's what I get for presumptuously creating a post!

BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN Previews Oct 4
2017, 04:16:05 PM
Who's going? How are the front two rows? The back of the mezzanine (the only seats I can afford)? Does it feel like a concert with more chatting than usual (though Springsteen was known for epic storytelling) or does it play more like a theatrical evening, a one-person show? Per Springsteen, the set list is locked in. According to Rolling Stone, this is the list of songs he played at the first preview.
Springsteen on Broadway Set List
1. "Growin' Up" 2. "My Hometown" 3. "My Father's House" 4. "The Wish" 5. "Thunder Road" 6. "The Promised Land" 7. "Born in the U.S.A." 8. "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out" 9. "Tougher Than the Rest" 10. "Brilliant Disguise" 11. "The Ghost of Tom Joad" 12. "Long Walk Home" 13. "Dancing in the Dark" 14. "Land of Hope and Dreams" 15. "Born to Run"

THE TERMS OF MY SURRENDER Aug 11

**sigh**
You said, "yes, we know this" as if everyone knew about this controversy so of course you wouldn't suggest differently.
But in fact you wrote, "Except for one thing- he said that Reagan "laid a wreath on the grave of a Nazi soldier". That struck me funny. I thought "how did something like that ever happen and I don't remember it?""
You also "corrected" me by saying that Reagan had laid the wreath at a memorial rather than a particular grave. But of course I made that very same point myself.
It would be fine not to be aware of the event. Surely many people on this board weren't alive when it happened. However, you can't claim to never have heard of it and then insist of course you heard of it in the same breath. You can't correct someone's facts by repeating the very same fact as if they got it wrong and you got it right.
It's famous enough to have its own Wikipedia page. You said you were so struck by the anecdote and thought, "How did something like that ever happen and I don't remember it?" And then wanted to muddy the waters and suggest Moore was making something up out of whole cloth, rather than getting an unimportant detail wrong. (He laid the wreath at a memorial, not a particular SS soldier's grave.) It was an infamous scandal and Moore's recounting of it as an embarrassment is perfectly on target. Besides, he was there at the time to protest, so kudos to him. The US gov't was ashamed and knew the whole thing never should have happened and are quoted saying so but no one wanted to make it worse by then pulling out. People on the right who dislike Moore's politics love to suggest he plays fast and loose with the facts, as you did here. You say, gee, what else has he exaggerated? Well, given the facts of this one anecdote as related on Wikipedia, nothing of note. Any reasonable person who wondered about that story would read the Wikipedia article (which even confirms Moore was there) and feel he was honest and fair. Maybe the fact that he was actually there led him to think he didn't need to double check the minor detail he got wrong. The world was outraged -- and the world knew Reagan was honoring the Nazi dead and laying a wreath at a memorial. By and large, Moore's story is on target, certainly far more than you were in your disingenuous post. Oh and I'm a registered Republican and voted for Reagan (and Bush in 198. Facts still matter, though the clock is ticking on that....

You can google and easily find pictures of President Reagan indeed laying a wreath at the Bitburg cemetery, which was dominated by Nazi-SS soldiers. He was widely condemned at the time around the world for doing so. You could tiresomely argue Reagan was laying the wreath at a memorial and not a particular soldier's grave but that's a distinction hardly worth mentioning. Michael Moore is essentially correct.

My attempt to upload the picture seems to have failed. You can literally see Reagan carrying the wreath here. The idea that you would pretend to google this and then claim Moore was lying or wrong is quite telling. Please go away.

How Much Longer Does IN TRANSIT Have? Jan 27

What date is the Sunday matinee you have free? If it's Feb 19 or later, I would definitely choose Come From Away based on early reviews and comments here. Sounds like one worth catching and it should be in good shape pretty early since it's had lengthy out of town stints. I think you have every other musical covered so I'm sure you've considered it. If you do plays, Jitney is great and perhaps Significant Other (which starts previews Feb 14) though most think it's no Bad J

Fascinating! Did you just google the names on the Playbill? Or did you look up the show's SEC filing? I'd love to know the actual official estimated running costs that the show included when doing that filing. But I've never been able to figure out how to look it up online. Clearly "In Transit" has a pretty low running cost for a musical. (My god, the poor cast had to lift and shove around those subway seats so often I expected a Teamster to come out and tell them they w

Yes, if you or anyone would give a general idea of new songs versus reworked songs from Bowie's catalog, that would be great. I'd be glad with a specific rundown but perhaps others consider that a spoiler, so maybe a general comment and then warn them you're gonna get specific. Is "Blackstar" in it? I heard that and other songs from his upcoming album were written for the show.
