 Mar 28 2010, 09:59:35 PM
Anybody have any suggestions for an audition song for a Tenor that is non-musical theater and post-70's?
NEXT TO NORMAL Tour plans

Yes I completely agree. Aside from her booked taping schedule, and if she had the time I think Toni Collette would be an amazing, inspired choice as Diana. The role needs someone with strong if not amazing acting skills and she has it. While I love Julia Murney, I don't think she has the acting chops to pull it off and well Jessica Phillips just seems too clean cut for me.

I guess I'll never be the editor working in LizzieCurry's office. Thanks for the grammatical correction. Now I can go hurl myself off the pier.

How about we change the wording to please the "legends" on here. Apologies for the misuse of the words. Point taken.

Rent by Jonathan Larson

January 22nd, 2010 through February 21, 2010

Jonathan Larson's Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize-winning rock opera takes the stage at Fort Mason's Southside Theater in its first San Francisco locally-mounted production. Based on Puccini's La Boheme, Rent tells the story of one year in the life of eight friends living the Bohemian life against the gritty backdrop of NYC's East Village. These friends strive for success and acceptance while

I mean no matter what I will always adore her for everything she has brought to the stage. I still remember one night when she was debuting her new album "Everything's Fine" at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles. We arrived early hoping to score a good seat and the guy took our tickets and let us into the venue. The guy didn't realize that he wasn't supposed to let anyone in as they were still doing soundcheck. I remember walking in with me and my friends and one of the production guys asked why we were in there, we said the guy at the front let us in. He was about to escort us out when Alice said that we could stay.

We scored a table (that wasn't reserved surprisingly) dead center in front of the stage. She said "Of course you can sit there, there's no reserved sign on there, by all means!" We watched this fantastic woman soundcheck and was able to chit chat for awhile with her husband Shannon.

Needless to say it was a small venue but soon it was filled with celebs many celebs and Broadway people including Jane Krakowski and Billy Porter. We felt so priveleged to be sitting there because we had better seats than them but Alice completely made us feel so special. I just remember sitting there in awe as she sang songs from her album, one particular song "Drive" where she just jumped in head first and during the instrumental break was just crying.

I will never forget that night. No matter what has or has not happened to her voice, she can squat and take a you know what and still be able to sell it, that's how much I love her. So Bravo to her for continuing to work and for possibly playing the role of her career thus far.

I had the good fortune of running into her at an event at Cal State Fullerton as she performed songs there for their theater department, and she actually remembered my name. I think I melted a little too when she did. She certainly carved her name into "Meadowlark" and "Another Hundred People" that day too. Wowee

My voice teacher used to take voice with the teacher that taught her and he was telling me how she used to exclusively be a soprano and that she didn't how to belt. It wasn't until she started belting that her career finally took off and of course the rest was history.

Actually no. I hate to disappont you but that was not me that posted on ATC. I don't hang out much there, but thanks for letting me know of the similar posting.

I hate to think about any of those things and her voice. But notes that were once easy for her, are no longer. True she can act and sing the hell out of songs with what she has, but its hard to deny that you can't hear the detereoration in her voice. And that's unfortunate.

Okay so I am a huge huge fan of hers. I have seen her live several times and obviously own all her recordings. The thing I want to bring up is this: what happened to that glorious voice that was heard in Sideshow and such. Listening to her in N2N I love her but it's obvious her voice isn't there anymore. Was it the 8 shows a week? Was it her rock band? What happened?

Random Question
 Oct 29 2008, 02:36:57 PM
A friend of mine was doing a crossword puzzle and came across a phrase that stated "broadway closing, figuratively"

It's a 15 - 16 letter word that we can't seem to figure out. I know it's random but anyone have any suggestions?

Company - John Doyle Version
 Oct 9 2008, 06:43:03 PM
I know this might be a topic already discussed but I did a search and didn't come up with anything so I'm going to ask it.

Do you know if the rights are out to the John Doyle version of Sondheim's Company? Or was it show specific that they decided to re-write the parts just for that particular show?

I'm just saying because theoretically you can perform any musical actor/musician.

But are the parts that were written by Mary Mitchell Campbell available to licens

I would probably have to say that the Leslie Kritzer is Patti Lupone in Gypsy would be the most ideal and the most brilliant casting ever.

Either that or after Cher finishes her run in Las Vegas she can come make her way to New York and play Mama Rose. Only this time in every scene she'll have a wig change.

I didn't know Danity June was in the show. Is she in any way closely related to Danity Kane?

I am seriously going to go and revisit my Golden Girls DVD collection.

It's going to be so sad for me to know that Sophia is finally with her Sal and she's no longer with us. But you know as long as Golden Girls continues, she's still around to me.

I know there's been comments from Betty, but has anyone heard anything from Rue or Bea?

This is a thread about remembrance and respect for an amazing performer who left us too soon.

Please leave the quips and quacks to the other threads dealing with crap and such and reality shows. There's enough of them to leave your wisecrack remark about kidney stones.

You know you've pissed Estelle off and now she's giving you the "eye". You'll probably end up passing a kidney stone the size of a bowling ball and maybe a boil on your butt if we're lucky.

Anybody notice that Vin is shirtless during his Grandmaster part in "What You Want"? I don't remember this being the case with Andy Karl.

re: In The Heights - Eden Espinosa
 Jul 18 2008, 03:48:46 PM
I'm not saying that she hasn't, she probably has. It would be interesting to see her take on the role although I'm sure she's already filled to the rim with the stuff she has to sing in "Heights".

I noticed in the program that Janet Decal is u/s for Nina. Does she have the vocal range for the role? I think I had heard that Krysta went on a couple of times.

Just an observation. Don't eat me.

re: In The Heights - Eden Espinosa

Yeah I guess that would be it, but I find it odd that she would pass up the chance to originate another role in a show rather than re-create a role that's been recycled over and over?

I mean that's under the assumption that she was even offered to continue with the show Off-Broadway and beyond.

And why is it you think that Mandy Gonzalez hasn't been approached to play Elphaba yet?

In The Heights - Eden Espinosa
 Jul 18 2008, 02:07:02 PM
After reading the interview with Karen Olivo on Playbill.com, she had stated that her good friend "Eden Espinosa" was in the first couple of readings for In The Heights as Nina. I remember thinking to myself the other day when I was listening to the recording how I thought Eden could have possibly played the role, it was interesting to see that she did at least early on.

Does anyone know why she didn't continue with the project?
