re: Will The Tonys Look Over 3Penny Also?

3Penny will fail to be nominated in most areas.
Is Michelle Pfeiffer a film "von Tussle"?
 Apr 28 2006, 02:27:38 PM
For those who consider Ms. Pfeiffer's performance as Susie Diamond in "The Fabulous Baker Boys", to be one of the greatest of the last 20 years, interesting news, to say the least.

I think it's important to remember that the inclusion of "Off-Broadway" fare just throws these nominations for a loop.

Right now, come awards night, you can expect everything to go to "Grey Gardens"!

Expect a different picture when the TONY nods are announced.

She just won an Oscar! She has films lined up from here to 2008.

No way!

re: Dolly Parton Should Star in the Revival of Hello Dolly!
 Apr 21 2006, 03:52:40 PM
Brilliant!! To do that role, they should have someone unique and Dolly would fill that quota. In Spades!

Who the hell would want to see Tovah as Dolly?

She looks better suited to pushing a potato cart than coming down a staircase.

She better! It was one of the most original musical theatre performances I have ever seen.

In a world where everyone sounds like Idina Menzel's half cousin (even the men), an original is a rare bird, indeed!

re: Joni Mitchell show w/ McCartney, Blumenkrantz, Cearley, Cutrell, etc.

Amen!

I heard Kathy Brier do "River" once - I almost threw up!

It's not "...and I am telling you"....nor is it "all that jazz"...

Leave Joni the hell alone.

All I know is the night I went (6th preview), Lauper had trouble saying all her lines up to and including:

"He's at Suky Tawdry's place".

Let's break this down; One line; five words; she had trouble.

by that point in the show, two well known stage personalites, who were near me, slumped in their seats and remained slumped till the lights went up!

BRAVO!

Ok - I could understand if maybe one or two reviews were negative - but when 6-8 reviews (including the "money" one) come back as dreadful - something's wrong.

I've been going to musicals since 1977 so Mr-Generic-Wicked-Lover, I am not.

All I wanted to see was something good.

So did the Critics.

Pans for the show?

Raves for McKay?

Sounds like my review:

The ThreePenny She-bopera: Where’s Bobby Darin when you need him?

Sunday March 26, 2006

After sitting through the endlessly boring revival of “The Threepenny Opera” over at “Studio 54”, I thought to myself that had Bobby Darin caught this production and not the infamous Off-Broadway production in the 1950’s, we would have most certainly been deprived of h

This is what I love about Lincoln Center.

I have seen Security decend on a woman who opened a wrapper loudly and was told three times by patrons to stop. At Intermission, they removed her and her husband and THREW THEM OUT!

I have seen Security throw out someone who dared bring bottled water to her seat.

I have seen Security yell at a man who had a coughing fit during an aria. The Guard told him "Your sick! Why are you here anyway?!"

It's a whol

Note the term "aria".

I always believed the composers said one thing and wrote another.

While it's not an opera "opera", I would consider "Pirate Jenny" as "operatic" in both scope and tone.

There's a huge vocal leap that's repeated in that over and over again.

and "Solomon's Song" ain't a picnic either.

There's other songs in it that have vocal challanges as well.

Umm - the Music is a somewhat big part of Threepenny OPERA!

It has, like Opera, in like, the Title!!

My fave is when the friends of the chorus folk act like snobs!

THAT'S a hoot!

I think it's easier in LA!

Everyone knows you are after something! Why, in gods name, would you BE there, if you were not!
