Bette at the Oscars Feb 26

I thought she was f***ing divine!! A classy, Broadway-style number done right on the Oscars is rare. Her and Marc are masters of their craft, and the love onstage was palpable.

MARY POPPINS RETURNS Dec 12
2018, 01:02:01 PM
Five Stars from The Telegraph:
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/films/0/mary-poppins-returns-review-practically-perfect-every-way/
"If I don’t say it, another critic will: Mary Poppins Returns really is practically perfect in every way. Walt Disney Pictures clearly realise the legacy of their beloved 1964 musical adaptation of PL Travers’ Mary Poppins stories is not to be trifled with.
So rather than carrying on the story in the ordinary sense, the studio has taken the same approach they did with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, crafting a follow-up that exists in what I can only describe as a state of quantum nostalgia – a simultaneous sequel and remake that had me on the verge of blubbing for its entire two-hour running time, for what felt like five different reasons at once.
The songs themselves, written by the Hairspray duo Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman, are all unqualified knock-outs, with all the infectious breeziness and soaring orchestration of the Sherman brothers originals. When the melody from Can You Imagine That glides in on an oboe during the opening scenes, I was convinced it was a new arrangement of a theme I’d forgotten from the original. There is no higher compliment that can be paid to Shaiman and Wittman’s work than that.
Hence the Force Awakens comparison, which I don’t deploy lightly: the nostalgia here is foundational; stitched into the fabric. For instance: did you know how much of the Mary Poppins "feel’ is thanks to the work of the great Disney background painter Peter Ellenshaw?
Marshall and his team certainly do, and work his rosy-ripe, impressionistic visual style into both the new computer-generated backdrops and the series of London landscapes that play beneath the film’s opening credits. Whether you get the reference or not is immaterial: the effect is all that matters, and it left me misty-eyed and codfish-mouthed."

MARY POPPINS RETURNS Nov 26

Wow, that's awesome to hear. Wouldn't expect the songs to match the originals, as I'm not sure that's even quite possible... but I figure that if the score/orchestrations are as glorious as you say, the new tunes will be supported sufficiently enough. (Did they at least surpass the quality of the new songs from the stage version?) Any standout moments? Do you think this will be a contender in the awards race?

Good lord, these orchestrations are unbelievable. Color me impressed. World premiere is this week – painfully curious to hear reports if anybody knows someone attending.

Mary Poppins Returns Teaser Mar 5

Wait, what bad buzz? I feel like people have been largely excited about this one. I think it looks — and SOUNDS — like it could be really magical. I'm very eager to see more. (And, if the color palette does indeed shift once she lands... I hope it does.)

That's literally a pitch altered version of the original Celine Dion/Peabo Bryson version. No way that they would let a high profile track like that leak so early.
Also, I'm 95% positive that this new recording of Emma singing with a full orchestra is just the trailer audio layered on top of the orchestrations from the musical. It's not amazing quality so it's hard to tell, but if you listen closely with headphones you can still hear the eerie piano from the t

Keep in mind that these are her isolated vocals without the final orchestra track. It was edited to fit into a 30 second clip with cheesy trailer orchestrations. I had a feeling they'd debut some singing during the Globes tonight, but I wish it was a fully realized version from the final film.

I can't speak for all of the theatres, but I know for a fact that the St. James basement stores all of the letters for their huge marquee on the roof.

Aida producer Jul 21

Why are you discouraging sharing one's curiosity with a group of other people that likely might interested? I learned so much about this industry during my education because I spent my time on these boards day and night. Sure, the OP could easily use Google - but now that someone else has shared their knowledge on the topic, so many other readers will know a little more about how theatre works.
