Earl Carpenter (Les Mis on Sat night) Aug 27
2014, 09:55:28 PM
@ theatrefan9960, that's a great description, thank you. Sounds like he's still got it. I was wondering, since I saw him in London in I believe 2009, and he was pretty good. Not my favorite but very competent, text book Javert, in a very similar vein to Rob Hunt, the replacement Javert from the 2006 broadway revival. My two favorites are Hadley Fraser and Drew Sarich (Drew solely on his acting choices, not his massively inappropriate voice for the role). But I DO sincerely appreciate Earl.

^ And what is that something special in Earl's Javert that you've never seen?? Can you describe it?

I like his Javert, but he's never been a real standout one to me. Just a very competent classic Javert. I think my personal favorite is Hadley Fraser from the London cast. Did anyone see Earl in London in 2009 or whenever it was? I would like to know if his Javery has gone a little stale since then, or is it still fresh?

I know this is the most delayed response ever, but thank you bertrande2 for those three links. I saw the ice bucket challenge, someone posted a link somewhere. His kids are HUGE. The boy is very pretty. Mini Drew with luscious blonde hair! I think his Gethsemane from Vienna 2008 (?) is my favorite out of all the ones I've heard. missthemountains, for sure, no question. he was eons better than Hugh. He is my definitive Lestat for ever. Hugh is just SO campy and his spoken line delivery

I always forget that Will Swensen was in Lestat. I saw drew as armand in one of his first Armand performances, when they had that medley ending and he was still doing the 'The pulse of love within my life was never quite enough' line. I still think that's a really good line. Bernie Taupin nailed the essence of the character Armand completely with that one. LESTAT did not blow that much. Come on, we've all seen worse. The music holds up. The score is just beautiful. I think it needed s

You know, i think he's best appreciated live, not in recordings or boots. His voice can be jarring and nasal sometimes and his gorgeous tremolo gets lost. His stage presence is a huge part of his appeal, and a lot of his energy and virility and charm get lost in translation. Re: DEUTSCH. I'm sorry. Personal opinion. I love the German language spoken. I really do. It's an awesome, powerful, sexy, beguiling language when spoken. Just not sung. If I see Inglourious Basterds on tv I alwa

Aaron Lazaar reminds me of a stick of individually wrapped string cheese, idk. String cheese is the equivalent of how much personality he has and how memorable he is. Max Von Essen wasn't that bad. Wait yes he was, but he did have great hair! Yeah I agree, Drew ain't coming back. I guess his kids are at an age now where they can't really be hauled around like luggage? i asked him like 8 years ago and he said they owned property in vienna and were gonna raise their kids there. So oh

Donmar Warehouse's CORIOLANUS. transfer?? Jun 16

you're really aggressive, and argumentative, and it's not a good thing. Why are you so hostile? Geez. If I have a bee in my bonnet (I don't even know what that means to be honest.) than you must be one of hiddleston's psycho fangirls that starts to rage when anything that may be perceived negatively is said about him. Or maybe you just need an outlet for pent up aggression while you hide behind a wall of anonymity. Who knows. Moving on.

Donmar Warehouse's CORIOLANUS. transfer?? Jun 16

well, why would you hyperbolize and ask me (rudely and sarcastically) that I have intimate knowledge of his plans? All I said was that he has one film on the horizon, in response to the above poster who said his film commitments are keeping him very occupied.

in Lestat he started as Laurent, in the ensemble. He got Armand after the original Armand left the show. Understudied for Lestat and played him for a few performances, a few of the last ones before the show closed if i remember correctly. in Les Mis, he was originally hired as Grantaire, but was an u/s for Enjolras, Javert, and Valjean (and maybe Marius?). He performed Enjolras and Javert often, did a better Enjolras than the principle at the time, and then they gave him principle Valj

Donmar Warehouse's CORIOLANUS. transfer?? Jun 16
2014, 12:27:09 AM
No. Did i say that i did? The poster above said it was about his film commitments. He only has one film to do. And I do know that when it comes to a lot of roles he loses out to Fassbender, McAvoy andTom Hardy. It's no secret that his career is not at all what it was projected to be 3 years ago. And that's all. One film in the can, one to go. Calm down

Fall 2015, geez….but Hiddleston only has one film lined up?? he's not nearly as in demand as a film actor as he and his people like us to believe.

he really does. he's very magnetic, even if there are 10 other people on stage who have more agreeable singing voices, and he's not the focus, your attention kind of automatically hones in on him and stays with him. And i love how unhinged and insane he can be without ever crossing that line into being completely ridiculous/campy. on another note, i remember you lizzie curry!!i HEY GIRL HEY!!! Omg. I used to love it when you teased me and called me names. so glad you're still here! <3

Valjeans are now sometimes cast quite differently than they used to be, pre-drew. seems to me that he set a new mold for the character. And i always thought that his understudy-who-climbed-a-ladder-to-the-very-top shenanigans were pretty legendary….

Donmar Warehouse's CORIOLANUS. transfer?? Jun 15

Since I post here on average once a year, what the hell I may as well do a double. Does anyone know if there is a possibility that Coriolanus will transfer to broadway in the fall? Is it being discussed? In 2007 Jude Law's outstanding Hamlet crossed the pond, and made a huge splash. Considering that Coriolanus is possibly the most successful shakespeare play the donmar has ever done, you would think that there would have been a lot of transfer talk by now, no?
