here's a link to an article by michael feingold about al carmines from 2005.

it probably wouldn't be inappropriate to write to him. there's even a link for letters on the page.

Altar Boyz is off-B'way, for sure, but I was thinking of things a little more 'downtown,' a little more cutting edge. NYC theatre has more to offer than musical comedy.

try seeing something off-Broadway as well.
there's a lot of genuine theatre here that doesn't get a lot of splashy press.

the village voice is a good place to start looking:

re: "Disappointment is generally a healthier feeling than anger, anyway, so brush it aside and start planning for your NEXT audition!"

yeah, but it's a lot more fun for the rest of us to see her running around with steam coming out of her ears, isn't it?

Does it occur to you that singing too well doesn't exactly fit the overall spirit of the piece?

re: Musicals of the 80s

... makes me wonder if there were any musicals produced in the 80's about 'products.'

(other than 'industrials,' of course)

can 'doonesbury' be considered a 'product' ?

"A Doll's Life"

and the number about canning fish is a kamp klassic.

re: What is your favorite broadway love song?
 Jul 19 2007, 08:43:40 AM
There are two of them that have been in my mind nearly all my life.

One is an off-Broadway love song, actually - "They Were You" from 'The Fantasticks.'

The other is "Her Face" from 'Carnival.'

DG: in a conversational and roundabout way (no pun intended), the point Schlozinski is making is this: what makes acting hard, and what most people who've commented here have neglected to consider is that the emotions that MUST come across on stage are not the actor's but the playwright's. no matter what sort of emotional connection the actor makes with the character, if it isn't the one the author intends, it isn't acting, it's psychodrama.

It seems like someone's more interested in the Playbill than the play.
