But we already had a straight George.  I was hoping he would be played by a gay man this time.

I’m hoping they get Brian Stokes Mitchell as George.  I love Billy Porter and I know he would kill I Am What I Am but I kinda wish as someone already mentioned J Harrison Ghee would play Albin.  Maybe he is too young?  Wonder who could play Jacob.  Jeremy Pope?

It's a historic & 'Happy' night for Asians & Asian-Americans at the Tonys!

Though I was rooting for Queen Audra, I’m still happy that both Best Performance by an Actor AND Actress in a leading Role in a musical were both of Filipino decent. Legendary Lea Salonga was so happy and proud!  I didn’t know Marco Paguia is Filipino!  There are now 5! Tony winners of Filipino decent - Lea Salonga (Miss Saigon), Clint Ramos (Eclipsed, Costume Design), Marco Paguia (Buena Vista Social Club, orchestrations), Darren Criss (Maybe Happy Ending) and

Jon Bernthal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach Will Make Broadway Debuts in DOG DAY AFTERNOON, Spring 2026

I’m guessing one of them plays Sonny (based on the poster alone might be Bernthal) while the other will play either Sal or the Sargeant.  Wonder who will play Leon Shermer?  I hope they cast a Transgendered or gay actor.  Any dream casting?

I was taken aback by that comment as well.  No matter how good the costume designer, movement director, Arden’s masterful direction, you still need a great actor to pull that off.  Yes darling he is not an actual robo

Snubbed but not forgotten - Tony Awards appreciation for unsung cast & creatives
 May 1 2025, 08:07:23 PM

So proud of Filipino American nominees Nicole Schezinger, Darren Criss, Conrad Ricamora (and of course Tony winner Clint Ramos for costumes) but sad for Tatiana Cordova for RWHC and Clair Marie Hall for Operation Mincemeat.  The legendary Lea Salonga, thought did not get a nomination this year, paved a way for these performers and creatives of mixed/full Philippine descent be recognized for their talent and excellence all over the theatre world!

I knew it was an acclaimed, change-of-pace ballad in the otherwise comic show that had received a lot of praise and an Olivier Award for Malone. I just wasn’t prepared for how good it turned out to be.

In the midst of a fast-moving, fast-talking, sometimes-hard-to-understand-every-word musical comedy, we get

Wow!  This jumped to second place in the tally board for most Positive shows of the season after Maybe Happy Ending who is still the only musical (or any show for that matter) of the season that has a complete across the board rave.  I wonder how Dead Outlaw would place after opening. So far we have:

NEW MUSICAL                    P - M - N
Maybe Happy Ending          14 - 0 - 0

Just in Time                       13 - 4 - 1

Operation Mincemeat          13 - 2 - 2

Buena Vista Social Club       11 - 5 - 0

Old Friends                         10 - 6 - 2

WEIGHTED AVERAGE AS PER BBW

1. Maybe Happy Ending 89.2%

2. Buena Vista Social Club 86.10%

3. Death Becomes Her 80.5%

4. Operation Mincemeat 77.8%

5. Old Friends 73.1%

Cole seems like the obvious choice for Distinguished Performance.

They’re giving it recently to established performers whose work in their winning year was sub par (Sutton in Music Man and Annaleigh in Sweeney) so I wouldn’t be surprised if they give it to Idina Menzel for Redwood, or Denzel Washington for Othello.  (Although

I know I'm a little annoying about this, but I have to ask: what vote would McDonald and Scherzinger be splitting? This claim implies that there's some natural class of Tony voters who would vote for those two but not Rogers. How would you characterize that group of voters?

Again, I know I'm a pain, but I

Tony race for Best New Musical
 Apr 9 2025, 11:28:19 AM

Based on very strong production, book and score, I think in my opinion these four would be nominated in all three categories:

1. MAYBE HAPPY ENDING

2. OPERATION MINCEMEAT

3. DEAD OUTLAW

4. REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES

and I think the fifth slot and the only one for obvious reason would not be nominated for Best Score and probably won’t get in for a weak book, but production wise, resonates with a lot of people:

5. BUENA VISTA SOCIAL CLUB
