I’m actually a film producer with several musicals in development including a Broadway musical I have the rights to. Promoting the narrative that it’s a flop isn’t going to help it or future musical movies. Official industry #s have it at close to 50 mil worldwide. pandemic - guessing the typical WSS audience member is more concerned about protecting themselves than the typical Spider-Man audience member  

WSS opened earlier than most “holiday” movies - ie before most people have time off work or school

Rob Reiner let his option on the film lapse. Couldn't get enough interest or support to make it at the budget level he works at. Writers/ Agents aren't interested in letting it be made on an indie budget which is a shame. And the reason why most musical properties flounder in development for years.

established producers/ director tried to option it this summer with this exact thought and the writer/ his reps turned down even entertaining an offer. it would be great but like so many theatre properties - a smug assumption that the piece will someday attract a huge price tag keeps most nyc theatre pieces from ever reaching the screen.

Wow - just over an hour on here and already bitchy comments... Neon doesn't always equal sci-fi. And anyway - it's a musical about 10 different time periods through which the same characters travel. Maybe no sci-fi but certainly fantasy.
