THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY Previews Mar 22

I agree with you bear88. It can even be argued that you just watched a movie.
Sitting in front row will strain your neck and the screen will be too big/close. A friend described to me seating is similar to going to the movies --- better to sit towards the back.
It's easy to be amazed by the play's technical marvels. As for the plot, I'm not sure if I can connect with the story at all nor was I moved.

I normally prefer to watch plays from front orchestra (first 7 rows) to be able to see the actors' facial expressions but from watching this play, you can sit in rear mezzanine and you'll still get to see Snook's facial expressions quite clearly. I thought it was clever use of technology and it is a marvel. Snook was amazing!
I talked to my friends about it and perhaps adding screens/video that feature actor closeups is the future of plays to

Bummer. I had a ticket for first preview. Ah well. I plan to just check and see what the rush policy is rather than rebooking as I know I can't make it to the new first preview date March 31st.
In the email it also stated they're offering us a tote bag which is nice of them!

Broadway Grosses: Week Ending 3/16/25 Mar 18

It depends.
Back in 2017, Rudin bundled Hello Dolly with riskier projects like A Dolls house part 2 and Glass Menagerie revival so if you’re an investor, you’re exposed to all 3 productions. Yes the Hello Dolly investors still made money but not as much as they hoped since the 2 riskier productions didn’t recoup.

Yup the Winter Garden has a higher seating capacity than the Barrymore so even though average ticket price for GNGL is $303 and Othello is $338, I can see GNGL overtaking Othello in grosses next week.

With all the talk of mumbling in this thread, I worried that I wouldn’t understand DW. I understood him just fine. I’m pretty far removed from my colleg

Hopefully NYPost will still have at least $900 in its budget to buy its critic a ticket to see Othello and review it for NYPost's readers. The seat may not be orchestra center row G though.

Back in 2016, Hamilton could have easily charged Othello level prices and they all would have sold… but they didn’t sell them at astronomical prices. Who profited instead? Ticket resellers/scalpers.
What’s fascinating to me is how ICEMAN COMETH starring Denzel back in 2018 was grossing roughly $800k to a million a week. It was even on TDF and TKTS. In 2019, SEA WALL starring Jake Gyllenhaal never grossed above a million dollars a week. However both of them combined i

And on the other hand, I do think it's gross that tickets are as high as they are. Denzel could have easily told them to set aside a certain amount of fairly priced seats, etc. But then there's also the gross beast that is resale. Why aren't we mad at the idiots paying $500 to see it? Or should Denzel and team asked for some of the ov

I hope Pamela Anderson comes back too. Seems like a long time ago now but when she performed at CHICAGO in spring 2022, all of the pandemic policies were still in place (vaccine/mask).

Operation Mincemeat had a Golden Ticket draw promo where seats in previews cost $39. That's probably why OM has a lower than expected average ticket price.
Given it's still in previews, normally creative team take up some of the seats and have some comps as well.
As for Othello, what amazes me is how star casting will drive fans to watch anything --- even Shakespeare --- just to see their favorite actors live in person. I don't recall Iceman Cometh being such a draw

Mescal to bring Frecknall-helmed STREETCAR to Broadway? Mar 2
2025, 11:48:04 AM
I saw the first preview on Friday evening and overall it's in pretty good shape.
Note I've never read the play nor seen the play/movie before but thankfully I went with someone who was very familiar with it and I asked him several questions during intermission. Before watching this play, I just assumed Paul Mescal and Patsy Ferran's characters were husband/wife or boyfriend/girlfriend given some of the marketing I've seen. Obviously I was wrong!

Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake on Broadway Mar 1

That's true. Nowadays when they perform at NY City Center it's always sold out. Matthew Bourne's Swan Lake was the last time I was in the theater before the covid shutdown in 2020.

OTHELLO ADVANCE Feb 28
2025, 12:09:53 AM
If the advance is $28M for a 15 week engagement, then that's roughly $1.86 million per week, which is great for a play! I'd say the grosses will be fine as long as the 2 stars above-the-title don't have significant absences that entitles the patrons for a refund.
Yes it seems like the only affordable way to see the show is via the lottery. However, if the show gets mixed-negative reviews or word-of-mouth, I can see the secondary market prices decrease to more affo

OTHELLO ticket prices?! Feb 27
2025, 01:51:17 PM
I don’t think the Barrymore theater has standing room.
Dont forget the cancellation line. I don’t know how much these tickets are but they tend to be a little below or above $200.
Judging from what happened to Macbeth starring Daniel Craig back in 2022 where reviews were mixed-negative, it was so much easier to find tickets later in its run.
If the reviews for this Othello are negative, then I bet there will be a lot of cheaper tickets in the secondary market

Money speaks. Not sure how much the leads are making but with $300-$800 range of ticket prices I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s at least $100k a week.
