Jonathan's first musical "Sacrimmoralinority" was co-written while in college. It was retitled "Saved!-An Immoral Musical on the Moral Majority" when it played in Manhattan. His next musical was "Superbia," and although it was never fully produced, it won the Richard Rodgers Production Award. "tick, tick... BOOM!" was next to be written.
