2025 - 2026 Touring Season

What does level 5 mean? (I’m in NYC but always invested in what my parents will get in Tampa as subscribers - excited to see what they’re getting next year.)

Also, any insight on whether Illinoise might tour, even limited?

Memorable Moments on Stage in 2024?
 Dec 31 2024, 09:54:15 PM

YES that brilliantly creative iceberg in Titanic at City Center, thank you for the reminder!

Echoing everyone re: the fireflies in Maybe Happy Ending, but really all of the tech of that show. I was oohing and aahing the whole time.

The whole end of Oh Mary. The end, and then the end-end. Brilliant.

The kid coming down the stairs in Appropriate. You know which part. And the stage design of the epilogue.

End of Year Theater Quiz: A Look Back at 2024

BROADWAY DISCOUNTS
 Dec 30 2024, 09:28:13 PM

Broadly speaking, about how far out from previews starting are mailers sent? So many things I want to see in the spring, and I’m planning ahead for when my parents visit in April, but those prices for the a-list celeb plays are INSANE. I know they won’t be on the discount sites, but hoping for a mailer code or two? I know I’m on all of those mailing lists and will get them if they’re sent, just don’t know long to hold out before potentially biting the bullet

'Swept Away’ to Close on Broadway December 29th

Can you elaborate on any specific moments? I was there last night but it was my first time - I had been on the fence but figured I’d get a last minute ticket as best-case sce

Your Personal Top 5 of 2024
 Dec 30 2024, 06:35:23 PM

It’s been such a great year for shows! According to the Mezzanine app (shoutout to the Mezzanine app for anyone not on it - I’m not affiliated, just a fan lol), this is tied for the most shows I’ve seen in a year since moving to NYC 21 years ago. And I’m even more excited for what 2025 has to bring!

In rough order:

1. Cats: The Jellicle Ball - an easy #1. I knew very little about ball culture (I know a little more now!) but one

SUFFS Being Filmed For Great Performances/PBS?

Oh I could NOT be happier about this!!

And so glad that schools will be able to have this. Such a great way to teach this slice of American history.

GYPSY Previews - most important question
 Dec 1 2024, 11:04:35 PM

I saw it today as someone who sort of knows Gypsy and has seen a few productions (Patti, plus Bette in the TV movie and the London proshot of Imelda), but doesn’t really have a strong opinion of the show.

And I thought Audra was really phenomenal. Vocally, she sounded like Audra - it’s odd to me to expect otherwise? But it worked for me - and her acting was absolutely next level. When the intermission lights came up, my mom (who barely knows Gypsy other than the mu

Best New Musical and Best New Play of the DECADE (So Far?)

(Though based on sheer level of enjoyment without any further analysis, Shucked)

Play - Fat Ham or Leopoldstadt

GYPSY Previews - most important question
 Nov 26 2024, 04:19:35 PM

Does anyone know the alternation schedule for the kids playing Baby June/Louise? Is that in the Playbill? I was so impressed by the absolute raves for the first preview Baby June, just curious who I'm going to get haha.

I assume that the other little girl playing her is also extremely talented given the demands of the role, but you don't usually get so many Baby June comments so it sounds like Marley Lianne Gomes is a star in the making!

2024 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade Broadway Performance Predictions
 Nov 26 2024, 01:42:04 PM

Grain of salt since it's a Wiki, but this seems to have the full rundown of performances as well as who's on what float (for the Broadway-adjacencies that aren't the official show performances at the beginning).

Spoilers, obviously, assuming this is accurate:

Appreciate the reassurance, thank you! Looking forward to a great trio of shows next weekend. At the very minimum as a Lesli Margherita fan these comments have me very pumped for the strippers haha.

GYPSY Previews
 Nov 23 2024, 01:01:14 PM

Real question: I have tickets to see this with my visiting parents next Sunday 12/1. When we bought them, my parents were skeptical about seeing a show in previews but I said “yeah it’s early in previews but it’s Gypsy and it’s not like they’re going to rewrite it, and Audra’s a pro.” I clearly did not know about George C Wolfe’s preview process.

None of us are particularly big Gypsy fans (or particularly big Audra fans, though

It'll stream on Peacock (after the paid home rental/buy period) since it's Universal - probably in spring.

Just saw this tonight and will add to the chorus of WOW, SPECTACULAR. I can't believe how fast it flew for a movie this long (only dragged in one part for me, which is the same part that dragged in the show for me, sorry Wizard), and 100% the right decision to make it two movies. I knew the two leads would be fabulous and they were (I've never been a huge Ariana fan but this absolutely made me come around on her a lot), but Jonathan Bailey was the most pleasant surprise

I have seen it twice in public screenings in NYC. My screening yesterday in Times Square was definitely a bit morecheer-heavy (moderate applauses after the bigger numbers and moments) but that’s as far as it went. No singing at all.

Musicals You'd Like to See Jon M. Chu Adapt for Film
 Nov 20 2024, 06:52:33 PM

Well count me as someone who absolutely loves his work and would love for him to adapt any number of shows!

I think he’d do an incredible live-action (Disney’s) Hercules - imagine the spectacle of the production numbers. Hunchback too fwiw.

I also think he would do a great Sweet Charity. It’s hard to imagine that as anything other than Fosse’s original (especially something as iconic as Rich Man’s Frug) but I
