BROADWAY DISCOUNTS

Anyone know of codes for Death Becomes Her? All the previous ones expired.

also, any for Six lately?

Jamie Lloyd-helmed EVITA revival to play the London Palladium in 2025
 Mar 15 2025, 01:30:18 AM

Zegler is a fantastic choice to play Eva Peron. Unfortunately Lloyd will probably have her perform Don’t Cry For Me Argentina while cutting onions, wearing a nude body suit, and standing on a loaf of bread shaped like Argentina

THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY Previews
 Mar 15 2025, 12:47:52 AM

I had the absolute privilege of seeing this production earlier this week. Sarah Snook is a revelation and deserves every award coming her way. The direction and concept of this production won me over within minutes and I found the whole thing riveting from start to finish. This production does everything I wanted Lloyd’s Sunset to do with their Camera concept. Whereas Lloyd’s often felt pretentious and wasn’t servicing the material, Dorian Gray is fully focused on elevating

BOOP! Previews

I was quite surprised with how much I liked Boop. I can echo this statement - Jasmine Rogers is an absolute star. She’s sensational in the role. If I were in charge I’d cut even more of the supporting stuff and really focus on her.

I felt like Faith Prince and DeRosa’s roles were small enough to be enjoyable but properly supporting. The biggest cuts could come from Hale’s role as the girl that finds Betty Boop in NY. She should really just be used as a plot

Smash Changes
 Mar 5 2025, 12:42:47 AM

I’m also a big fan of the tv show, but I gotta say that I think making big changes for the stage is smart. I love the tv show, but it was not a success and was critically panned after the first few episodes. Why do the same thing? From what I’ve heard from friends that saw the workshop, this will be extremely different and we’ve just barely been subject to the big changes coming our way. They’re trying to write a new musical that will stand on its own and not

Alright friends, I’m going to need everyone to blow up this board whenever we hear of Standby dates!

City Centers 24-25: Ragtime, Urinetown, LaChiusa's Wild Party, Love Life
 Feb 12 2025, 12:58:41 AM

I was there tonight and echo much of the same. I think the material holds up but you need a director who understands the humor. This production lacked such a director.

Thank goodness for Stephanie. She was a star and truly understood the material and her character.

Jordan sounded fantastic but an actor he is not… I really don’t think he understood what makes Urinetown so funny and I was very underwhelmed with how he played the character. Perhaps with a bet

Nick Jonas and Adrienne Warren to star in THE LAST FIVE YEARS Broadway Revival

I was expecting to not like Nick’s vocals on this. I was not expecting to my reaction to Adrianne. I’ve loved her in everything I’ve seen her in, but there was something off in this clip. Almost like she was told to sing it more stylistically or something. It feels fake. But I trust her as an actress and trust that onstage she’ll come through. Can’t say the same for Nick, but would love to be surprised.

Where are we? Middle school? My god. You responded this way to someone saying they were happy for the production getting the reviews it got.

Thank you!

Yall can say I’m lying. Yall can say these people are jealous. Say whatever you want to make yourself feel better. But I’m just passing on what I’ve witnessed. I’ve consistently met people who were very excited about the show and left very disappointed. These have almost always been theatre workers of all kinds and some tourists.

Therefore I stand by my statement. Word of mouth has not been great.

AUDRA GYPSY Reviews

This board is fascinating. Everyone is being so mean! We can all love or hate any show we see. I, for one, really disliked and was disappointed in this Gypsy. But it’s fascinating to see that Word of Mouth and Critics are so different here! I was expecting mixed/leaning positive reviews. Do I want the show to fail? No! I’m happy for them and am open to seeing it again because I saw a very early preview.

But this is so interesting that it’s raves when in-person I hear

“This. This. This. Audra's vocals in this, precisely like 110 in the shade especially her song Old Maid. I think this Gypsy is nothing like youhave seen, yet alone heard before and it works so much. Honestly the only negative response has only been on these boards. Other friends have gone and have raved, as do I. This is a production not to miss. Audra is giving us a master class acting and singing. And if you don't get it, that is truly OK. Art is subjective. If you do get

Just passing opinions on - my friend saw it last night and had all the same complaints that I, and many others here, have had. Cheap/sloppy design, Audra is miscast, choreography is bad, loved the Gimmick Girls, etc. Our biggest difference is that I thought Joy was fine and she just lacked chemistry with the cast. They HATED Joy and thought she was a terribly weak performance.

Though I’m happy to report that some other friends of mine did love the show all aroun

They are thoughtful, carefully considered, and in every way analytical. I don't find any disrespectful of the artists orartistry. A great theatrical treasure McDonald certainly is; but this is a public forum- and I've been here two decades - that welcomes discussion of dissenting takes. It's always been a reliable place to get

I’m glad you enjoyed her performance and you bring up a lot of interesting critiques and points. I, however, don’t agree that all voice types are fit for all scores. Just like all instruments aren’t fit for all songs. Imagine if Gypsy’s score was played on only cowbells and clarinets. Or Rent was played without a single electric guitar or drum set. Audra is obviously an incredible vocalist, this is not a discredit to her talent. But a lot of people are going to fi

I agree that this is similar to Lenk, though I thought Lenk acted Company much better than Audra acted Gypsy. And I saw Lenk’s first preview as well as much later in her run. Lenk never really clicked with the vocals and I don’t think Audra will here either.

And again a shoutout to Mylinda Hull’s Miss Cratchitt. When she was doing her first scene on the phone and the stage manager called for a hold and she said “I’ll have to call you back” without missing a beat and hung up. It was SO funny. And then when she returned she said something like “Sorry, this next act is having issues with their set” and it brought down the house.

This soundtrack is great! I agree that the sound wasn’t always the best in the theatre. But this soundtrack is so full and satisfying

Alright, I say all of this with so much love and respect… I’m very sad to say this was a big swing and a miss for me, and I don’t see it getting better.

The set design is unappealing and basic and the first thing I thought was “cheap” which isn’t good when you’re charging $500 for orchestra seats. The costumes were also pretty basic. I’ll echo people’s thoughts on the lighting - very confusing choices. That could improve over p
