Nightcap Riot: Mombucha Jan 4

Our opening weekend band is JC Brooks and the K.i.D! I first felt the presence of JC Brooks in the backstage of the DC’s own Black Cat, esteemed launch pad of innumerable indie bands, and thought: “this must be what happened when James Brown walked on stage at the Apollo in April ‘59.” Madness! His hair emerged first – some kind of trademark staple among legends, I suppose –like a volcano that wanted to give you a hive five. It spoke to the personality of man that it ornamented – unflappable and combustible, solid and explosive, smooth as hell and rough around the edges. This is the kind of artist that I’m always looking for. And so I became a passionate fan and friend of JC and his band, the Uptown Sound. Many a sensational night had ever since. You’ll be hard pressed not to find your toes tapping to just about any track that he creates: from “Rouse Yourself” to “I Got High” to “Sister Ray Charles.” And then, all of a sudden in seemed, I started noticing clips of JC’s series of performances at City Winery in Chicago emerge on Youtube and Facebook. His tributes to spirits and sounds as disparate as those of Tom Waits, Steely Dan and Lady Gaga. And I realized that this guy wasn’t only one helluva soul band front man, but indeed one of the preeminent interpreters of the great American songbook. Damn. So it tickles me to produce the first NYC appearances of JC’s electropop duo with the great Jeremy Tromburg – The K.i.D. – because I know that the performances will be as spellbinding and spontaneous as JC was that first night long ago in Washington, and as illuminating and exciting as his other projects to date beyond the Uptown Sound. It is the perfect act to launch the musical component of Nightcap Riot: Mombucha – a concert, world-premiere play and beverage tasting/"brewtorial"...all in one night, in one space, for only 50 people and only 50 bucks. JC + Jeremy are performing at the performances on January 15th, 16th and 17th, 2016. We cannot wait to see you there!
